Was I at the right airport? coz All I saw was duty free shopping no food outlets, except for the cafe as u leave duty free?

The airport is OK ... not too big but clean. Couple of good restaurants including Indian - food was mediocre to good.
The only airport where I've seen shops selling GROCERIES!!!! (cooking oil for example)

^ In Tokyo, they have a fresh grocery stand ie fruits and vegetables. It was nice, I got myself a few tangerines. They also have 7-11s.

I found that some people smoke inside...even in the non-smoking areas...it's hard to make them stop, cuz they just won't...no matter how many times you tell them, or airport staff tells them.

the sheikhs at dubai apparently like to imply "we're in the money".. i lived in dubai for 11 yrs (since i born 'til '04) and went to pakistan quite often (almost if not every year as far as i can remember).. so got to see the airport quite often..
i amn't so sure how was it when i was a kid my parents say it wasn't that special .. but since the 2000s it's been quite gaudy.. golden bulbs hanging from the ceiling in a mesh pattern, a rather overly lit-up duty free (ah that place man), and the waiting room halls had date palms planted in it and were carpeted (check out the airport's pic on Wikipedia, mayb they still have it til now)..
