Du'a Jameela for LLK's benefit is a collection as stated by mirage ... But it holds no basis in Hadith. It is a formula developed by Sufi shuyukh as a form of spiritual medicine like various hizbs ... Such as hizb-ul-bahr, or the various dzikrs that have been developed... And so on ...
The basis for these are to attain certain spiritual benefits ... But cannot be viewed as sunnat or such things and also they cannot be classed a reprehensible bid'ah either, because of the nature of what they set out to achieve.

I've found a book full of Dua's at home. Probably it's the same one mirage is talking about. It's has all different Dua's and daroods. Wazifay.

Darood taj, Darood taneeja where in Islam they hold a place.
I get to hear from many people read Darood taj x amount of times till your dua is qabooled.

A darood is a du'a - a du'a can be made in our own words ... If we say "Peace and Blessing Be Upon Muhammad" - that is a darood ... Traditionally we recite darood in Arabic because of their superiority. But you see du'a takes a different class of ruling. It means that darood don't have to be from authentic sources, but they only have to have correct meanings and appropriate to the person of Sayyidina Muhammad (SAW).
The same also applies with Du'a-e-Jameela

One should be very careful in doing zikr of Hizbs such as Hizb-ul-Bahr or Hiza-e-Qate' etc. as you need to have Ijazah from your Shaikh, as far as I know.

I have seen the darood in Arabic, but I'm clear about the full meaning ... I understand it to be amongst the many generally accepted darood's.

Hizb means a collection or grouping - they usually contain verse of the Qur'an selected and strung together to form a common theme ... they will include carefully placed and positioned loh-e-Qurani as well ...
The hizb-ul-bahr is generally for protection and it is composed of the ayaat which have been selected for the protection inherent in their recitation that Allah (SWT) grants.

Is such grouping permissible? What I understand a verse from chaper x is grouped with verse y. Is it thats how?
