Pakistan Said to Know of Nuclear Transfer
The father of Pakistan’s nuclear program told investigators he gave atomic weapons technology to other countries with the full knowledge of top army officials, including now-President Gen. Pervez Musharraf, a friend of the scientist said Tuesday
yep.. AQ Khan will go down fighting..
So what? It's no big deal even if Musharraf knew about it, each country acts in it's own interests at the time.
AQ still has to explain how and why he cashed in so spectacularly if the reports are true.
Mr.Xtreme,
You say “So what?”

I’ll tell you what. Up until now, Musharraf and his cronies have said only “rogue scientists” were involved. That stands exposed now.
Kambakht scientist took money but atleast made the bomb. What did the Generals do? Hide behind the bomb and make threats?
If Musharraf admits he did it then that means International sanctions.
But let me tell you something, if its about the money, lets start with all retired Generals. Want to tell me how they got their dozens of prime plots? How they paid for their kids education abroad?
This kind of shame is what is needed in Pakistan to bring the truth out from the thieving elites.
jub hum kahtay thay toa koyee naheen sunta thaa.. ab toa sun loa.. these Generals who make money while jeapordizing the country's vital interests are a dhabba on the face of our nation.. bring them to justice before we bring any other BB or Gunja to justice..
Yes. It's time to debrief Gen.Beg, Gen.Karamat and all the ISI chiefs who served when these deals allegedly took place.
We can have a real military debriefing session. Maybe we can put it up on GEO live with Sheikh Rashid giving running commentary.

I'm no fan of the military but if Musharraf can't turn Pakistan around I don't really see much of a future for Pakistan. Who are the alternatives? MMA?
Mr.Xtreme,
What “turn around”? Sure, Musharraf started off good especially compared to Ganja Sharif and BB, but it all started going downhill with his “referendum”. After that we had a fake eletion where all the same crooks and lotas came into power under the PML-Lota and PPPPPPPPPP ![]()
Meanwhile every retired General and his uncle got jobs in government and they only messed it up. The economi improvement was only because if the halwa we got afer 9-11 and our Taliban dump.
How different has Musharraf been from Ayub or Yahya? He is heading for the same fate.
How about attempting to arrest the backward fundamentalism which was taking the country nowhere? A thaw in the political climate with India? Do you have better alternatives to deliver on these fronts? The only one I can think of is BB but then she and her hubby would probably strip Pakistan of whatever remaining assets are left.
Qazi Hussain spoke to the BBC and repeated the same.

This he said, she said, I heard, they told is no confirmation. AQ confessed or not, I don't doubt his involvement, nor do I doubt the government of the time.
And who can say for sure that the current government didn't know about it all along.
who cares, man. It's our nukes and we're gonna sell'em to who ever we want. Big deal.
AJ, its possible that the current govt knew about the sale of tech in the past. Mush was in the army back in 1989, 1991, 1996 and 2000 etc. But he may not have been debriefed by his then superiors. Also keep in mind that US had sanctions agaisnt Pakistan up until 2001 - yes, you guessed it, when US needed Pak to go after the Talibans.
Don't worry, everything army does is good for the nation.

The "leaks" coming from our own government says that AQK was doing all this as late as 2002. He even used PAF planes.
Try again.
As to past leaks, what about giving the same treatment that AQK is getting to the Generals?
I cant believe people here are defending Musharraf, he was equally responsible as AQ Khan in this mess, if there is any.
Spock,
Exactly.
This whole mess started off when we admitted guilt prematurely.
Musharraf has been quick to surrender to any US hukm.
From the American viewpoint, Bush's forigen policy regards to WMD has been very successfull.
Actually I do believe him
I think the whole saga took place with the knowledge of the army, the security is so tight for the scientists that I don’t think he could have done it on his own. Pak army the best
The latest on this saga is that AQ Khan has held meeting with Musharraf and filed a mercy petition, keeping in view his services to the country. He has denied the smuggling of any cassete abroad. He's most likely going to be pardoned or no further action against him is likely, given that no European country has moved an inch against their scientists. He has accepted the charges of proliferation.
