Re: Do’s & don’ts

MMA did not get elected because the people of N-W.F.P. wanted to Talibanise (or whatever) the province. At that time MMA was lesser of the other evils. We shall kick them out next elections for sure.

Re: Do’s & don’ts

Yes. Gays are welcomed.

Re: Do’s & don’ts

Malhot. Thats sad.

Hindko is still the second main language of the city. Hindko speaking people of the city are caled Shehri (meaning City dwellers). The language is very close to Punjabi, however, Shehri don’t like to called as Punjabis.

People usually like mutton here, not beef.

Re: Do’s & don’ts

Taking an oath doesn’t matter, however, make sure you don’t have any scratch or bruise on your body, otherwise they will think that you are coming back after attending a terrorist training camp.

Re: Do's & don'ts

As a Pashtun I would be honest with you. Don't listen to these bigots who know nothing about Peshawar or the people of that area. They forget that while their Muslims forefathers during the partition were killing Hindus and Sikhs with whom the share blood ties the people of Peshawar valley actually defended them. It is no biggie, all you have to do is make a Pashtun friend over the net that is there and he will lay his life for you. It is not hard to find generious Pashtuns who will become your guide in Peshawar. You might also visit the tribal areas where you will see Hindus and Sikhs living amongst the "TALIBAN PASHTUNS" in peace and harmony. I would have become your guide though I'm not there :- ) Try Pashto/Pakhtu news group on yahoo.

When the Indian cricket team came to Pakistan they were told no to go to Peshwar but they went anyway, there they got more respect then Lahore or Karachi. There Pashtuns out of respect met their namestay with namestay unlike the wannabe Muslims of Lahore and Karachi who didn’t even look them in the face with respect. When Shah (Shahid Afridi) greeted the Indian Captain with namestey it was all over Pakistani news and the people of Pakistan were ready to declare him a Hindu. When Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan frontier Ghandi said Hindu and Muslims are brothers it wasn’t the Pashtuns that called him a Hindu for saying that, it were Lahoris.

Re: Do's & don'ts

malhot, just in case if you are not comfortable with Muslims in Pakistan you can always find a Hindu guide or friend, there are plenty in Kohat, Peshawar, and Bannu. Many are professors and in respected fields unlike other cities of Pakistan. Try the web I'm sure you will find someone. Make a friend that can take you to the tribal areas, visit TERAH, there are Hindus and Sikhs there protected by the tribes.

Re: Do's & don'ts

Logo-you are right my Mamaji stayed behind for several months, since a Pushtun swore that he would kill or be killed, before anyone touched my Mamaji. He even drove my Mamaji to the airport and wept as they parted.

Re: Do's & don'ts

I've read all this rubbish said about Peshawar. More unfortunate is the apologetic style of our own people while responding to the all the diatribes (of people like shrunk and lussi). Obviously, they cannot see the filth in their own backyard while commenting about others.

Frankly, I've been to other provinces. The life-style in the pre-dominantly Central Asian north-west is far better than the noisy, swarmy cities and muddy, dusty villages and towns of South Asia. People also look more healthy and fresh compared to sick-looking South Asians.

Wth apology!
