It is a natural historical cycle where some nations gain superiority over others at a point it time and lose it later. Greeks, Romans, Persians, Mongols, all had it and lost it.

‘The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History’ is a good read. Not because it ranks Muhammad (PBUH) at the top but because a good majority of people listed come from modern day Europe, were from 14th to 18th century, and were philosophers, poets, writers, musicians and scientists. It is important to know because they were influential not because they were great, but because people READ them. For me, lack of education (as opposed to schooling) is a major cause of the condition we are in and the leaders we get.
