where we live, if you can put it in the City provided Trash bins, they take it, no matter what. I disassemble my old grill, my old computer and they too it as trash .
Still there is a recycle bin also provided by city. All the boxes, I throw them in recycle bin
The council here are very meticulous...we have two refuse collections per week. They have so many bins to take, that they insist we do it properly or take it to the recycling bank.
I think it is good and it is good to promote it throughout the family.
Supermarkets are now offering incentives [albeit minor] just so one re-uses their carrier bags.
