Do you hate America? (requested by Zakk)

Do you hate America?

  1. Yes, I do.

  2. No, I only oppose the current government’s policies.

  3. No, I love America and everything it stands for.

  4. I don’t care one way or the other.

*Note from forum moderators - This poll has been kept purposfully simple in nature to encourage clean and productive discussion, and we do not want the poll to be an absolute polished opinion on its own. *

It would be useful to have a bit of a discussion about how members differentiate what they feel ‘America’ currently represents and how this image sits with the present government’s policies, foreign or domestic.

You choose, we debate.

Those who say we hate America actually loves in shape of Music, Clothes, Movies, Food - the list goes on.......

p.s. I don't like Bush but that doesn't mean I hate him for being an Idiot

For those that hate America and all that it stands for should know that America was built on noble ideologies...It was built by people who were honest and hard working and these folks created the greatest nation on earth out of hard work and sheer grit and they deserved it...If it is slowly and gradually decaying, it is simply a course which every civilization takes and has taken...

Sure it had its moments where it has and does act tyrannically, however that should not deter you from appreciating the tenets on which it was founded...

For those that love it uncompromisingly have only to look at the Third Reich or any other form of fascism that existed...It was their unconditional obeyance to the nation that led to the barabarism that the 20th century witnessed...

As for myself, I am at peace with the general American public...However, I do not hate the American government...I loathe it...

Wiping out the natives and stealing their land is indeed very noble. The less said the better.

well to understand usa you must really dig in deep
the jews know the american mindset and thats how they make them dance to thier tunes
usa is a place where most of the people dont know whether india is in asia or africa.
the american public are people without any background thats they are like orphans unlike india or any other civilisation so they have invented thier own values and thier mindset is fluctuating. so they are a sort of people who can easily be manipuliated. media is thier parents tv is thier family. so they belive what they see and hear . and what they see and hear is decided by their jewish landlords
80% of american public know very less about the rest of the world and are busy munching into macdonalds its the est of the 20 % of the people that run and decide the usa and rest of the worlds affairs and jews are 15% of this 20%
i love the american life give me a visa and iam off to a better life
but i think the american foreign policy is against humanity and is gong to destroy the world

I dont have a problem with American people. I only have major differences with the present govt.

As an American I freely admit lots of things I don't like.

But if I was writing a list of likes and unlikes.

The likes win over the unlikes.

I wonder if the likes would win (over me), if I were a woman living in Saudia Arabia, or Iran?, or Pakistan even?

I wonder if I would be happier there? I wonder if I would be able to admit that there are things I don't love about my country?

^ This wasn't posted as an America bashing thread, but several people have been posting about how anti American the people on this forum are...it seems the results don't match their distorted perceptions.

I think you will find that the Native American's who were robbed of their homeland and massacred, the African American's who never qualified to be part of "all man is equal" mantra, and the Mexicans whose country was invaded and large parts annexed to create the present south-west of the United States will disagree with that. Though, every nation glosses over it’s painful past, and paints a more rosier picture for future generations.

That said, the United States has more than made up for any injustices to it’s non-white citizens, and in a relatively short time, from which other nations could learn quite a bit. There is no doubting that the United States of America is a truly great nation, and it’s people one of the most gracious and welcoming people that you will ever find in the world. It has become a hugely successful nation through the hard work and spirit of all it’s people, originating from every corner of the world, a multitude of ethnic groups and all the faiths of the world. That is what makes America great, and which will ensure America’s continued prosperity and success in the future, which is why American’s must unite and oust from power the extremist minority who seek to create mistrust and promote confrontation with others across the world.

I dont understand the difference between option 2 and 3, because they do not seem mutually exclusive.

I think the main issue is not weither if we love or hate america or current american administration... keep one thing in mind that this administration came into power just three years back.. and ofcourse got the survival issue they wanted to stay in.. for this term and and could assure the next term .. (thanks to G-chromosom in some of the key elements of administration).. the mean issue is what American think tanks are after!! do we like them... cos america is on the same route from the very begining.. many administrations came and are gone.. Liberals and republicans both, but the key features of their foreign policy didn't change!! they did't take any U-turn after 911!!.. they are doing the same they advised adminstration to do in 1998 about Iraq (open letter to Clinton from PNAC; Project for a New American Century which is an american think tank; (guess who worte it)..... Donald Rumsfeld and Richard Perle.. amazing... isn't it!

Well,

As an AvgAmerican. I am glad I read the postings, as I have had feeling that sinse I am an American, I am hated around the world.

Sometimes the feeling that, yeah, these people hate me and my country and wish nothing more than to see me and my family dead.

Sometimes the feeling that nothing would bring greater joy than to see all of dead and forgotten.

But I was wrong.

There is hope.

whoa! you're not a desi living in America??

Absolutely Not a Desi-American Gora.

Just a Gora.

Or a Desi-American-Gora wannabbe.

Nah...

None of the above.

only a loudspoken average american.

How did you find this place? and why did you decide to stick around? Do you have any interest in learning different cultures? Just curious.

Anyway, you’re very welcome on these forums.

I have great interest in cultures of people. Traditions. Sayings. Beliefs.

And I found this place accidently.

And I am blessed that I did, I think.

I have learned so much.

I’m still learning.

Everyday.

I have mostly leaned a great appreciation for the absolute class that majority of people here exhibit.

And such good humor.

Belated, Happy Thanksgiving to all American's. :)

Another somewhat belated Thanksgiving.

I remember as a kid I used to look forward to Thanksgiving each year, cos it meant a fun day of stuff at school. After moving to the UK, it took me nearly 4 years to figure out why it is that they don't do Thanksgiving over here......

As an American “mutt” myself, let’s not forget that the bulk of our population immigrated here over the years from many many other lands. We are not all WASPs. We are not all evil land-stealing, tribe-killing, slave-owning,Bush-voting hoopies;)
Some of us actually have our own opinions, and others have even been known to care about what goes on in the world!hehehe Of course, according to some, we may need a map of the world to figure out just where those other countries are that we care about :mudhosh:

And though I stumbled onto this forum quite by accident, I am so happy I did.

Thanks for the Thanksgiving sentiments - hope all the Muslims also had a good Eid.
