My mum had spots of dark pigmentation and was given Retin-A by her doctor which faded them all brilliantly.. As others have said tho you have to use sunscreen.. Retin-A only ‘normalises’ skintone tho (it increases the rate of cell turnover so you ‘shed’ more quickly), it won’t make you any lighter than you naturally are.. Products containing Hydroquinone (banned in some countries and requires a prescription for strengths over 4% in the US, Vit C, Kojic Acid etc will also work (the last two more slowly).. Another alternative to sort out dark pigmentation quickly would be a TCA peel (you’d need medium depth with about 7-10 days downtime tho.. results visible within a week to two but with the obvious downside of literally looking like a burns victim and not being able to go out whilst the skin peels off)..

Your mom’s lucky! My mom used Retin-A for almost 5 months…no change. But then again since I don’t live with her…not sure how diligent she is about using sunscreen…

Agreed that a TCA or Phenol peel is the “fastest” solution…but the downside is the recovery time AND knowing what you’re doing (or finding a reliable professional)…b/c if these peels go wrong…they could potentially leave your disfigured. I’ve thought about introducing my mom to hydroquinone and TCA…but I’m too scared that she won’t be super diligent with the safety precautions. And if something goes wrong…I’ll never forgive myself.

In addition…Vitamin C serum is amazing! LOL…I recently started this and now plan on making my own at home…combined with Lactic Acid peel & Retin A…this made a huge difference in my complexion!
