Yes it really matters in today's world BUT that's how the general population defines it.
If we look at history, Khadija radiallahu anha married our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), a rich woman marrying a poor man. It's possible if one is sincere, has true faith.
Our society does not allow this change, if we want change, we have to set examples by following the greatest example ever sent to humanity, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
