Are you a Pakistani? I am sure but at the same time I am confident you have never visited Pakistan for the past more than 25 years.
National Identity Card was introduced in 1973-74 and is mandatory for everyone. Governemnt has introduced a separate ID Card for those who work abroad though it is my personal thinking it was introduced on the grouns that the authorites abroad cannot read Pakistanis urdu language card abroad hence they should have a special card in English. Fee of this card was fixed initially $25 for per three years which on protests was reducd later to $ 10 for more lengthy time. Authoities in USA, Saudi or Germany never asked for Pakistan ID Cardfrom Pakistanis working there as Pakistani authorities never ask for Chinese, Germany or Arabic ID card from people living in Pakistan from these countries. This was I think more a money generating formula. However coming to the topic Pakistani ID card is a must for everyone and Pakistani government has recently introduced databank of the population which is a very nice work. Initially when card was introduced there was a lot of criticism that the then government was rounding the grip around necks of people like socialist countries but now it proves it was a good attempt. UK is also introducing its national ID car next year.
