Do great sons...

Re: Do great sons...

Do great sons make great husbands?
Not necessarily.

Re: Do great sons...

I think many people assume a 'good son' is a result of overbearing/doting/emotionally manipulative parents (specifically mother). Which is understandable considering the prevalence of it in our culture. If this is the case, then no, he's never going to be as great a husband as he is a son. He'll be raised with double standards regarding women - "always remember your mother and sisters are irreplaceable and your wife will always be an outsider." I've heard educated men repeat the same with pride.

A mama's boy will remain emotionally stunted and thrive on it.

Doing right by your kin is easy. But the test of a decent man (or woman) is how they manage a relationship not bound by blood. Whether that's with people less fortunate or a spouse. A good son is not much use if he doesn't have an inherent sense of fairness.
