What are you on about?
I’ll say it politely again (again? :halo: ) STICK TO THE TOPIC.
Blimey
Re: Diseases
Okay fair points. You're right about prostitution and lack of contraception being the cause BUT while that would be likely; the RAPID explosion of HIV post 1960-70ish to a global level in such a little time also suggests human bongiyaan i.e. some virus that got out? But then again the complexity of HIV makes me want to doubt that and it makes your post seem more credible.
Yes, one of my cousins was telling me about these, amazing (in a scientific sense).
Virgo, loads of us are from medical backgrounds and some are in Med school too :p I never will know the attraction of monkeys. Er well.
the reason for its explosion is that A) it takes a long time for the disease to show its symptoms. it can stay in the body for a lifetime, just multiplying, but your body's well equipped to fight it, so there is no such disease stage. so even though you're not exhibiting any symptoms, you're still infectious. B) it was a fairly new disease. no one knew what it was, how it was tranferred from one person to another, how to prevent it etc. C) a lot of travel, between africa and the rest of the nation, which possibly included prostitution. D) and this might be controversial, the more openess to gays and lots of people having unprotected sex. note, i'm not saying it's a gay disease. most likely it was tranferred by the same man having sex with women and men, but since there was no education at that time about the disease, it all just added to its spread.
Re: Diseases
Okay, I get the lack of symptoms bit. What puzzles me is this: in other diseases the cause of global widespread infection can be attributed to food, or even some sort contact i.e. some strains of flu, or meat that is infected etc right? Now in that case rapid infection globally is understandable due to the movement of goods such as food from one corner of the earth to the other and once in a country that infection though food and then humans would be rapid.
BUT I am surprised at AIDS. Its mainly transferred through infected blood, sex etc so in that sense while it WOULD spread globally I’d think its rate of infection across the world would be a lot slower..but that hasn’t been the case. So THAT makes me think your point was also correct but humans may have also dabbed or messed around? Or am I clutching tat straws. :hinna:
Basically my point is if the main reasons for AIDS spreading is by infected blood, unprotected sex then the rate of spread would be far lower globally?
Re: Diseases
oh i forgot to mention infected blood via transfusion. you can get aids, hepatitis, and tons of other diseases that way too. and you'd be surprised how quickly a disease can spread. if you take it just as an STD...there are a lot more cases of syphilis or say gonorrhea out there, but sicne they can be cured, since it's not an epidemic, it doesn't get as much exposure as HIV/AIDS. however, WWII, syphilis was a problem. it did spread everywhere back then. 1 person for example can infect a lot of people.
Re: Diseases
I also read the cure for AIDS is virtually impossible due to the constant mutating virus?
If it is that then there can't be a cure ever or can it?
Re: Diseases
HIV/AIDS didn’t related from humans getting freaky with monkeys. That’s not even a theory given credence.
As far as I know all viruses mutate and are changing.
Also some people have a level of resistance to strains of HIV itself. they used to say it was due to the black plague but now scientists are leaning towards smallpox as the cause of this (check out CCR5 for more info )
Re: Diseases
It is not spread by sexual contact only.
The disease has been around for long time no one can be sure.
It also affects animals like chimpanzes (west Africa) but a different type of virus. HIV-2. Not HIV-1 which affcted human. This was discovered in 1999.
It hit the news faster when some people got infected. Gay males in NY and CA. Later some ‘celeberities’/actors/porn stars and people in sports.
It bacame known only in early 1980’s, not before that.
It’s not known that human had sex with chimpanzes to get these viruses. Not even included in many acceped theories how it got to human. ![]()
These theories do include conspiracy theory as mentioned above. Others are hunters getting infected (most accepted), contaminated needle, vaccines or few others.
Re: Diseases
Diwana, if it did not start early then the problem remains: why the sudden explosion of Aids globally in 1980's?

Shak first it is not known how many people had been affected before. The information spread because of a group of people got affected.
Secondly, the viruses are ever changing organisms. It takes a long time for genetic compositon of these agents or hosts, to result in what we see at some pont of time.
Who knows some good viruses in future become lethal by some mutations. Or vice versa.
There are other diseases or condtions which are presented this way. It is called Acquired deficiency (AIDS) to dfferentiate it from some genetic immunoeficiency condtions.
