Combine that with the outrageous tax cuts he gave to big businesses belonging to the filthy rich and wealthy (since that list include his own family as well), the overall tax to GDP rate fell during his 1997-99 tenure…and economy growth was the worst ever in the history of Pakistan…at 3.1%. Even Benazir’s era with Mr. 10% as the economy minister had a better rate of growth of around 5%. Pakistan was on the verge of a default when Sharif was forced out in 1999.
Your argument reminds one of how Mr. Sharif and co repeatedly mention things like motorway and metrobus in every sentence as their accomplishments. What they forget is that if you initiate one project worth 10 billion, and then steal 50 billion on the side, the public goes in the negative by 40 billion.
As a wise man once said, you can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cant fool all of the people all of the time.
