First appointment went okay I guess. My therapist taught me some stretches & wants me to see her 2x a week for three weeks. She did knead/massage/probed & what not my upper back & ribs. It hurt really bad at that time. Almost brought me to tears. She said this pain is not because of disc herniation but the fact that my muscles are super tensed. We’ll find out in three weeks I guess.
Anyways thank you all. Once I see how this goes. I 'll try to post an update here.
salam ,new member .dignosed with herniated disc ,any one with same problem ,suggestion .exercise . I m in Canada so seeing a specialist is two months . what helped with same problem .thanks
salam naeem .just saw u had same problem as mine ,just wondering what helped for u . I have disc issue since 3 months .mri show l5 s1 pinched nerve. I m in Canada and I saw physiotherapist no helped ,just wondering what helped u .thanks
Walai kum assalam Sajid. I am a woman so what worked for me might not work for you. What sort of physical therapy did you try?
The only way I have figured to conquer this beast is keep my back muscles strong. Start walking if you don't already. That is one of the basic things you can do to help your back before you see a specialist without doing any additional damage.
Fix your posture. A common mistake most of us tend to do. Instead of slouching while you do your daily activities. Sit straight. ( Seena taan kay) as they say. Try it while while reading this & you'll feel an instant stretch. Its cause over time our back muscles just become used to not being straight & they become weak.
I won't say strength train before you see your specialist. But the biggest thing that worked for me for me was working my back muscles out. Even if I am not able to lift weights I do back exercises that were taught to me during Physical therapy & all I have to do is stop doing doing them for two weeks & I start feeling it in my back. I don't know what you did in your therapy but remember we gotta sometimes push ourselves harder. Endure more pain before we can get red of the root pain. If that makes sense.
Push ups & Squats also help in maintaining a strong back. Push ups for me personally are a God send.
Bend your knees when you have to lift stuff instead of just reaching for whatever is on the ground while in a standing position.
Most of all hang in there. This phase will pass soon too InshaAllah. Let me know if you have any more questions.
thnks ,naeem ,
yes , i m doing physiotherpist prop ups and doing exercise for abdominal muscles . but its realy not helpng at all , i changed to another physio therapist same exercise .just wondering is it gona be on and off ,or it goes . went to er and saw nerologist ,he said it is a small buldge will get clear by it self ,and says 9 out of 10 time it get better by it self ,any way what is your personel experrience ,i mean is life realy hard with this or will get ok .
thanks
I won't say life is hard with this but its definitely different. It just makes you more cautious. Personally for me the pain has been on & off. Its definitely not as bad as it used to be. I still have my bad days every 2,3 months or when I stop exercising. You will need to constantly make sure that you keep your back muscles strong by exercising or walking/running.
Its been more than a month since you last posted so I am hoping that you must be in a better shape by now.
One thing I will however tell you is that just keep in mind that many people out there have worst things to deal with than disc herniation. As scary as this sounds, its actually not that bad. Whatever you do be mentally strong & physical strength will automatically start building up.
salam binte naeem and everyone ,

The standard of care is that if after 4-6 weeks of physical therapy, ice and heat packs, pain killers and anti inflammatory medicines, if you don't get better, you see a surgeon or specialist. They will usually refer you to a pain medicine doctor who will give you a series of injections in your back. If that doesn't help, then surgery is the next step. I am going through this as well right now so I know how hard it is. Find a doctor who will listen to you.
well I go to physio for ast 3 months now.ut no difference ,I saw a top neuro surgen here In Canada ,and since iwen to paistan I showed it to a neuro there bot of the told me I will get better by its own . another problem here in Canada is it takes 3to 4 months to see another surgeon ,its not like Pakistan that u can take opinion of 4 diferent doctor in a day .trying to get through this .inshalah will get through.
Go to your primary care do for in Canada and tell them it's not getting better. I already had surgery done in Pakistan 16 years ago and after that never had any major problems, Alhumdulillah. Now I have problem with another disc, not the disc with the operation. I wish I saw your post before you went to Pakistan. I don't know where in Pakistan you went, but in Karachi, there is Dr S a siddiqui! he's very good. Try to ask to see a orthopedic surgeon maybe. They also do disc surgery. But I think you should ask your GP and see if you can see a pain management doctor first.
Prof Dr.Shams Shehzad is a highly inhumane, unprofessional and a very very very rude doctor. He is only interested in making money by diagnosing unwanted surgeries to the paitents and has commercialized this noble profession in an entirely wrong way. I as a paitent would never recommend anyone to visit this doctor--its like risking your life in danger!
He has no courtesy of listening to the paitent"s problems and concerns and responding to them in a proper way! I have never seen such an arrogant and rutheless doctor
So whatever u do dont go to him for consultation
