Re: Difference between Sharara & Gharara
i have a picture of a group photo from a family wedding back in early 1920's, all the ladies are wearing shararas which are two legged, no gotte, and they look like really wide bell bottoms..
gotte is typically for ghararas...shararas were originally two legged without the gotte.
Re: Difference between Sharara & Gharara
That's so weird. I always thought shararas and lenghas were pretty much the same thing. It sounds like you guys are saying that shararas and dhaka pajamas are the same?
Re: Difference between Sharara & Gharara
exactly chanda, thts wht i saw n hear from ladies from tht time..
wht are dhaka pajamas?
Re: Difference between Sharara & Gharara

sharara sharara ..reminds of the ssong
aur gharara ..when u got sore throat ..aur u put nimak in water and u gargle ..:p
Re: Difference between Sharara & Gharara
i am not sure..the difference between a dhaka pyjama and a sharara maybe in the cut..or the shirt they are worn with...from what i saw..the shararas were paired with a short shirt with slits..and the flare of the sharara is not as much as the gharara...
gharara has chunat under the gotte..and the gotte can either right above the knee..or below the knee..
sharara is just a very wide trouser...no gotte..the legs are parted normally as in trousers..
Sharara - 2 legged fitted at the top and flares-out at the bottom (modern version is a single skirt-like lehnga)
Lehnga - fitted from the waist and flares out from the bottom to form a perfect round.
Gharara - fitted from the top and divided into 2 individual parts if the "gote" rests above or on the knee it's a classic gharara if the "gote" is lower it's a farshi gharara, the cut is tapered.
Dhaka Pajama- a lot like the Sharara, flares-out at the bottom and has work on the bottom part of it. The cut is very straight and stiff
Re: Difference between Sharara & Gharara
What Gina said. Shararas are two legged. They come in two styles-- one is like a really wide looking pant (like the one Kareena wore in Bole Chooriyan) and the other is tighter fitting at the thigh and flares out at the knee, sort of like a bell-bottom-ish.
An even wider variety is what the Dhaka pajama is (no gote).
Ghararas and Shararas are very similar, except that the Gharara has a lot of chunnat (gathering) at the gote. Shararas are flared at the gote, but without the chunnat.
From afar, the Sharara can look like a skirt, because of the way the shape falls, (slimmer at the top and more flared at the bottom), but it always has two legs.
The Lehenga is just a skirt..... can be done in so many different cuts ofcourse.
