Re: Despatches documentary slanders Islam: My commments

Just because someone claims to be a muslim, should we automatically support him? What about violent elements amongst muslims? Should we support them unconditionally, just because they are muslims?

There are different stages we go through in disagreement. First is debate. If that doesn't reconcile the various parties, then you get into disassociation stage. Last stage is violent conflict.

I think with those muslims who espouse violence against civilians as a way to hit back against the west, mainstream muslims should now go into disassociation phase. Unfortunately, I believe there will be severe bloody and violent wars between various muslim sects before it will get any better. I hope it doesn't come to that. But sects and groups that are founded in violence will likely not go away without a long bloody conflict.

This doesn't mean that all members of that sect/group are bad. However, if the leaders of a group espouse certain values and the followers remain quiet or tacitly agree with those views than they have, infact, accepted those values and the consequences that come with it.
