Mostly indians use word deis as their identity.
I think Pakistanis use them too.

O ho .. when people mock a group, its always an understanding that they are not including their family in it .. though certain family members are part of that group ..
what do you think is going through the minds of girls when they claim that all men are pigs .. you think 'all men' include their father and brothers also .. they do .. but then they dont .. ;)
They should include their family naa like there should be a word or GALI "desi ki aulaad" or "FOB ki aulaad" for those people who think they have non desi manners and come from desi backgrounds.
UZ, it is a representation of our own insecurities that we go around mocking others. And like TLK said, somehow we tend to exclude ourselves or or close family members when stereotyping :D

I never knew the word desi was offensive.. 
I use it all the time…
In fact, over here in the UK, we refer to pakistanis/indians etc as “Asians”, but i know across the pond, the word “Asian” refers to Chinese/Korean etc…
And, i hadn’t heard the terms FOB, ABCD etc till i came on GS…

UZ someone can be a recent arrival from pakistan and not display the negative qualities that people list their frustration with and yes poke fun at.
it is issues like personal hygiene, respecting people's personal space, privacy, being too nosey, being too sectarian and ethnically biased, etc etc.
By all means if someone in my family is clueless about hygiene, or about personal space, or about dressing properly
what do we call such people in Pakistan? people who dont dress properly according to the norms there? or has poor hygiene by Pakistani standards. dont tell me they are not made fun of there as well.
Here I think the issue is that you see such characteristics mostly displayed in a subgroup of recent arrivals, ..or sadly in some cases people who have been here for sometime but have not really bothered to understand general to-dos. Its not unique to desis, the term FOB was used by chinese folks way before desis ever got a hold of it.
forget desis, people in big cities in US poke fun at people from small towns and how they dress, and people in Europe poke fun at american tourists and how they act and how they dress, list goes on.
