Desi Dawat

interesting topic..

My husband and I talked about this in regards to desi vs. Amreeki style dinners..

in amreeki dinners you make one main meat dish that will be searved with one to two sides and presentatoin is important....

desi daVuts (had to double check so that ms. madhaboolah's didn't get huffy) it's just more is better...and I think something you can't really savor the dishes because the tastes become too much...

no man, no nakhray, the kids eat tony's pizza at home no reason that we orer friggin lou malnattis for them. the idiots who moan and groan etc either learn to live with it, and in some cases wher the parents were idiots too and they thought just cuz we did not get her laadla just a stuffed crust pizza with xyz toppings from piza hut, we were bad hosts, we kinda stopped inviting them.

and some ppl need to drink diet sodas, I have a good pal who is 34 but has been diagnosed with diabetes recently, He had not told anyone for ages about it but u kinda have to look out for that.

One thing I always disagree with my mom on! She likes to put everything on the table, Chawal, 3-4 salan, sometimes kabab and I always tell her two salan should be enough. Another things is there just aren't any good desi vegetable dishes that I know off, which can be served at dawat. Except for the annual saag/makki ki roti lunch we have at our place, the menu is always pulao/biryani, kaurma, palak/ koftey or chicken karahi etc, which gets so boring :-/

I always get confused when there is too much variety on a table...I can't decide what I like better and what I should enjoy more...

For me the best combination would be Qeema (of any sort), Salun (of any sort), roti and for the rice lovers Biryani (preferably Sindhi) or plain rice with some sort of well made daal and a sweet dish, (for myself either kheer or rasgullay)...

Not too may dishes, little confusion and fewer dishes mean more time spent on cooking each, thereby making them delicious...

Thats fine. For those who don't drink regular drinks, we always have ice-cold water available. If they are water-intolerant too, then I expect they should bring their own thermos with their magic potion with them. Don't expect me to buy special drinks for them, cz no one in our home drinks Diet, and any leftovers will just get wasted. Thats why I don't stock them no more.

I cant stand the taste of regular coke..too bitter..love the diet stuff.

There are some great vegy dishes..

My mom makes this amazing aloo methi/dill dish that gets raves from everyone. there's always palak...either with aloo or daal..
