Re: Desi clean eating -
proto i treat daal like someone would a starter course in a restaurant. I make it as a watery soup and eat it with a spoon. If I eat daal, I will not eat a heavy meal - that’s how I see it.
If I want to make it into a heavy meal, I will drop in grilled fish pieces, meat, etc. Not everyone likes this though so its usually something I do when I am only cooking for myself. Tons of protein in one go.
Clean eating is when you follow one really basic rule: to eat food in its natural or closest to natural state. So things like white flour, sugar, bread and pasta are out when you do clean eating. Its hard for about three weeks if you’re a carb nut like I am then its so easy you don’t even think about it. You will also find yourself simplifying your recipes.

One thing I will say is that some of our Pakistani cooking IS clean because we believe in fresh ingredients. As a whole, we don’t eat a lot of processed food so the switch isn’t too hard to make. We need to eliminate the oil, parathay, roti, commit to packing lunches which is where I fall off the wagon and cut down on our ingredients. I learned from cooking for myself (I live with parents) that recipes where I use more than 6 or so ingredients confuse me when it comes to calories and fat.
Bint e Naeem’s blog is mostly clean eating too I think.
