Re: "Defensive mindset snatches defeat from jaws of victory" - Imran Khan
Inzimam should be smart enough to pay attention to some good advice if he can't manage things on his own. He has a totally different personality compared to Imran and so far has managed the captaincy based on either his batting success or creating harmony in the team (no use of danda or galian)
He never learns from his mistakes and I will be suprised if he drops Rana or Imran Nazir. A few good innings from him top of the order will help him gain some confidence before it is too late
Re: "Defensive mindset snatches defeat from jaws of victory" - Imran Khan
Pakistan needs to change its strategy for the first fifteen overs..jitni chadar ho utnay hi pair phailanay chahiay. Whats the point of attack when you are digging a hole for your team.
All we are asking from the openers is to stay on the wicket so that it is not a huge pressure on the batsmen to follow.
I also thought like Imran that Inzi should lead from the front and come up the order but he is not someone who would rotate the strike quickly and I think Inzi knows that.
Re: "Defensive mindset snatches defeat from jaws of victory" - Imran Khan
What the hell are we paying Bob for. I thought he was a great "strategist"
Come on man even a layman like myself can come with better planning than these bozos
Re: "Defensive mindset snatches defeat from jaws of victory" - Imran Khan
Inzi is fortunate that someone like Imran is there to advise him with no personal interest of his own and who wishes the team well, please listen to this guy before it is all over for pakistan

The problem is, Imran is trying to explain in English. Had he tried Punjabi, then it might get through to Inzi?
Re: "Defensive mindset snatches defeat from jaws of victory" - Imran Khan
If Inzamam is batting up in order than it means that we cannot trust Younis and Yousuf for helping us win games. I thought Imran always supported best players coming up in batting order. Thing is Younis and Yousuf did not get off to a great start, which have been a bench mark for our wins. Inzamam probably will come up in order and score, but lets see who saves the game for us when our tail is exposed?
The score wasn't enough for the wicket; it should have been 280-310 to be a winning score. Our top order let us down; hopefully they will get it together next time.
Re: "Defensive mindset snatches defeat from jaws of victory" - Imran Khan
World Cup is the biggest stage in the cricket world. Most people choke under pressure. I would rather see Inzi face the pressure than Younis. If Yousaf had the stomach he would have been the captain of our team or at least vice captain.
Re: "Defensive mindset snatches defeat from jaws of victory" - Imran Khan
I chuckle at those who are now longing for Salman Butt. Guys, your memories are deceiving you. Butt started off phenomenally in Australia but then has lost his way, and you know why? Because other teams read through him. They know his weaknesses and unless he fixes them they will get to him every time. Thats why he failed again and again, before he was dropped from the team. This happens when a cricketer has faulty technique and is just a flash in the pan talent. Talent alone can not make you successful at international level on a consistent basis.
I think its Pakistani mindset to long for the one who is invisible and trash those who are actually there. As they say -- Dur ke dhol suhaanay!
Hafeez is a terrific asset to the team. He should not be dropped. Opening with Younis may or may not work. Kamran is always an option. He is a tulla... chal giya so chal giya. Most critical is that Younis, Yousaf and Inzi have to play it out till the 40th over at a reasonable run rate. After Afridi is back, most likely Nazir and Rana will make way for Afridi and Sami. Shoaib Malik is an other extremely under-rated player. He is also a phenomenal asset for the team.
We all say Pakistan has mediocre bowling; however it was our batting that lost us the first game. 241 is an eminently gettable score on an easy batting friendly wicket. If Nazir had not gone out on the 3rd ball or if Younis had not gotten out, we could be looking at 105/1 at the end of 15 overs rather then the pathetic 43/3. I don't even want to start on how MoYo and Inzi batted
Re: "Defensive mindset snatches defeat from jaws of victory" - Imran Khan
Hafeez kia kar raha hain?
Can anybody tell me why the worst opener in ODIs (in major teams) has made a comfy spot for himslef at the top?
People keep bashing Nazir. If Nazir fails, at least he hasn't eaten up too many deliveries. If he partially succeeds, he lays the platform with a nice quick cameo. If he succeeds, admittedly unlikely, then we have a potentially matchwinning innings.
Hafeez is only in the team for 10 overs of offspin. Fine, use him as a bowler. Just make sure he doesn't bat above Rana.
Totally agree! I was wondering the same thing. He has played about 45 matches and has an average of about 18 with a strike rate of 58. This is rediculous for ODI's. IMO, 20 matches are more than enough chances to give to someone to prove themselves. For me, a talented player should win AT LEAST one match for his team after 20+ matches, let along 45. I don't recall even a single match where Hafeez won us the game (someone remind me please if I'm forgetting something). I know there's no point arguing about it now as to why he's in the team, but it boggles the mind considering players like Yasir Hameed were overlooked because of him.

Exactly right.
I notice that people will first clamour for somebody to be dropped.
Then after its been a while since he has been dropped and replaced by another player, the first player (who is no longer in the team) appears to gradually redeem himself in the minds of the same people.
Over the years, I have been reading posts here about Butt, Yaseer Hameed, Imran Nazir, Umar etc and this is the pattern I have noticed.
I am sure a few months after Hafeez is dropped, people here will suddenly discover that he wasn't that bad after all.
Re: “Defensive mindset snatches defeat from jaws of victory” - Imran Khan
You can’t really judge someone’s true leadership qualities by appointing them as stand-in captain. We will realise Younis’s true captaincy potential only after he has been promoted by right and been in the job for a year atleast. As Imran says in ‘saffar naheen aasaan’, captaincy is something you learn on the job. It’s not something that can be taught or you are born with. You just grow in the job and get better with time. Ofcourse personality too plays a big part and Inzamam’s very defensive and negative mindset, dull personality and safety first approach all prevent him from taking chances when it comes to the selection of the team and being very attacking in the field.
