Re: Defending a celeb or stranger online..
Yeah, it was Faryal..
I'm not a die-hard fan or anything (I don't have anything against her either).. The thing that grated on me I guess was that the ppl criticising her were doing the same, if not worse.. The swearing hijabi with the heavy makeup forwarding the insults to her other half and a few of their relatives/friends was really low as well..
(And as for the 'ironic' comment CM can't get much more ridiculous than the person who 'liked' your post.. Out of 100 posts maybe there are a handful where I've said things I shouldn't have done.. we all lose our cool sometimes but most don't bait or go after ppl obsessively)
Regardless of your opinion the comment is factual and valid.

At least I readily admit I've sometimes said things that I shouldn't have.. Take a look in the mirror..
(Bans and so on are normally a pretty good indicator of how a person behaves on a forum.. mentioning no names of course ;))

Re: Defending a celeb or stranger online..
How is that at all relevant to this post? Look you said how its awful that people judge people on the internet via twitter and then you do the same thing. Do you expect me not to comment on that?
PS I am perfectly fine with being banned. Who cares about a rep on the internet.

[mod]no personal attacks please..it's Ramadan ..(if that makes it a legit request/warning!)[/mod]
Re: Defending a celeb or stranger online..
^Err.. the 'victim' is a Pakistani girl, genius.. Also, I'm pro-hijab which u would know from my posts on GS so don't know why you're doing selective reading and trying to derail my thread..
Why play "derailing my tread" card when I wrote something related to your post and its contents?
Now, you could have spared the readers from detail of people origin or background and mentioned just the act of hypocrisy.
Lastly, you actually did the same thing which you seem to not approving. :)
Re: Defending a celeb or stranger online..
Specifically Twitter.. Anyone done this?
I was reading some really nasty comments yesterday about a Pakistani girl (her partner is famous) and was thinking wth?? There was a little group of Pak girls from the UK who were really slating her, basically calling her a sl*g for wearing a sleeveless dress during Ramadan (in their words she was 'half naked' even tho it was full length, not low-cut or anything, just sleeveless and this was for her birthday), saying she wore too much makeup, that her guy prob wasn't the first she had been with and how could he marry her rather than a 'good' Muslim girl..
The funny thing was that the girl who'd called her up first on the dress was wearing sleeveless herself in one of her pics (same with a few of the others), likewise a hijabi girl who'd been slating her makeup was caked in white foundation and bright lipstick in her own profile pic..
I didn't get involved in all this but I was tempted to.. What would you have done?
Not on Twitter but sometime ago, a stranger was the target of online harassment by members of a subculture I consider myself part of. On some forums where the incident was discussed, I did mention among other things that I didn't condone their actions. It was more of a thing to get my 2 cents in rather than any sense of duty.
