@antiobl

Dush thanks for sharing. It is indeed an interesting read.

Howe Br. Khalid hasn’t shared anything that has changed in “him”. We can appreciate beauty anywhere, what is so special about Makkah?

Off course everyone will bring back something from there and I ain’t talking about zam zam bottle or a pack of Khajoors.

Here are few thoughts that I have to share.
You have to experience when you see the Kaaba for the first time. A simple yet grand building. You have to kiss the Hijre Aswad and suddenly you are spiritually connected to all the great men who were there before you. You picture Abraham and his quest to find the truth. The truth that he didn’t see in the temple. The truth that his father couldn’t explain to him even though his father was the chief caretaker of the temple. That spiritual journey that starts form the black stone, takes you over to the safa marwah. Then you realize the pain and the thirst he was going through, and his deeply spiritual mother Bibi Hajra is wailing while running from one hill to the other wondering if her son will die of thirst.

The journey continues on to the mount of Arafat, where you ascend closer to heavens in search of the same truth that Abraham was looking for, so many centuries ago. There you walk in the steps of great sages, sufis, and saints who trekked long ways to get there. Then you grow quiet and listen to the prayers of those long gone people, and how solemnly they were looking for truth in their lives.

To wrap up your journey you make a commitment to fight evil by symbolically throwing stones on jamarat. That symbolism is unique to Hajj, because all the prep work that you did at Kaaba, safa marwa, and Arafat, and the plains of Muzdalifah reaches a crescendo when you declare yourself above the three evils that are so common among Muslims these days. You first attack the evil of anarchy, then you attack the evil of extremism aka suicide bombing, and then in the end you throw stones at sectarianism.

And thus one can achieve liberation form hate in the name of religion.
