The key word here is moderation
Because we all interpret religious freedom differently (and I am not talking about basic tenets here...) i.e. what is allowed and not allowed in our religion depending on our understanding of religion, education, family and cultural background, exposure to West etc. what constitutes right balance or not will always be controversial and debatable.
Labelling anyone who talks about modern Islam as secular is very easy and vice versa
That said I see nothing wrong with Ads showing a bit of sensitivity during the holy month. Who wants to turn on TV at Iftar time only to see semi-clad people selling products! I don't know what bugs the writer so much to see " Models (male and female) in crisp shalwar-kameez with a holier-than-thou expression and tone of voice b**sh assorted products to a soundtrack punctuated by the azaan oModels (male and r a naat and images of well-lit mosques; an open Qu’ran is illuminated by a light from the skies......"* during the month of Ramadan? Is shalwar kameez not our national dress? The important thing is not to overdo it though. A bit of commonsense is all that is required sometimes
