The recently called me from the airport and did not report anything unusual. I'll be certain to ask them for details as they are due to arrive back to the states soon.
I couldn't provide much perspective on hotel stays as they were staying with family in the Clifton area. Likewise, most everyone there has generators so there weren't any complaints on those grounds either. I hadn't heard of any prolonged or widespread power outages.
There was only one unusual event. The were headed to a wedding Valima when they were stopped outside the facility due to a possible bomb threat. The restaurant's owner was an American man who said that this happens from time to time and is without any merit. The police quickly conducted a search and the wedding party was allowed to proceed with their celebrations.
There is absolutely going to be a certain amount of discomfort. And you may even exercise more caution than one typically would when traveling to Pakistan. But to be honest, I don't think its any worse than it usually is.
At least not in Karachi... I would suggest that you PM somegroovychick, she is in PK right now and may be able to provide more perspective.
