Re: Crunch time in Lebanon: Pro-Syrian protests, Tuesday 8th March
What country has the infrastructure to bus half a million people to Beirut in a day? Forget half a million, even one hundred thousand?
There’s no hiding from the fact that the majority of those people in Beirut today supporting Syria are patriotic Lebanese citizens.

Re: Crunch time in Lebanon: Pro-Syrian protests, Tuesday 8th March
Syria is playing with fire. Letting the Genie out of the bottle has risks.
Today you have a bunch of people who support Hezbullah and the ABUSI (that is, Anyone But United States or Israel) crowd. But what happens when Syrians really want to vote? What if Syrians want to assemble in the streets of Syria? What about the ballot box? Any chance of a really fair election (ie, one with interantional monitors like Afghanistan) coming to Syria? Many of the Iraqis did not understand the concept of voting. They were wondering how much they would be paid for thier vote this time. The Baathist party in Syria has to be very worried.
No one ever said the "democratization" of the Middle East would be linear. But the feeling of empowerment is becoming pretty universal. That bodes very poorly for tyrants like Assad. Patience.
Re: Crunch time in Lebanon: Pro-Syrian protests, Tuesday 8th March
^ Syria is no Iraq where the Shia population was being repressed by a minority sunni govt. Believe me when i say that sunnis in syria couldnt care less about elections and democracy. They've been at peace with the Shia establishment for quite a while now. The best you can do is get them to retreat their troops from lebanon.
Re: Crunch time in Lebanon: Pro-Syrian protests, Tuesday 8th March
Looks like there were big pro Syria demonstrations in Lebanon today.

Re: Crunch time in Lebanon: Pro-Syrian protests, Tuesday 8th March
I heard at Saddam’s brithday they used to get like a million people to come in and praise him in the middle of baghdad…ever see the birthday celebration for N Korea’s leaders..millions would be bused in, given placards etc.. hahah.. who cares…here we come Syria..open up and say AAAAH :soldier:
Re: Crunch time in Lebanon: Pro-Syrian protests, Tuesday 8th March
^^
True, but Lebanon isn't as closed a society as North Korea is or Iraq formerly was. There is freedom of expression and press, and any evidence of forcing people to attend en masse would be quickly and obviously exposed.

Re: Crunch time in Lebanon: Pro-Syrian protests, Tuesday 8th March
You know, why are we that worried about this?
There is no greater enemy to the Muslim Brotherhood than Syria. The town of Hama was leveled by the Syrian Army, killing between 20,000 to 30,000 religious zealots. Maybe we should take notes, or back Assad? In previous decades we would have sold him arms as the enemy of our enemy. How odd that now we oppose his repressive ways, but the the crazy Pakistani's think he is cool because he fights Israel and "occupies" his neighbors lands. Go figure...
Re: Crunch time in Lebanon: Pro-Syrian protests, Tuesday 8th March
I detested Hafez Assad for what he did to Hama.
But Bashir Assad, he is not accountable for his father's deeds. Indeed, Bashir Assad, since taking power, has released Muslim Brotherhood members imprisoned by his father and has been slowly and steadily lifting the boot of repression off the Muslim Brotherhood.
Re: Crunch time in Lebanon: Pro-Syrian protests, Tuesday 8th March
CHANTING "Beirut is free, America out",hundreds of thousands of people swarmed into the Lebanese capital today for a mass rally led by Hezbollah to counter global demands for an end to Syria's domination.

Look like the western media along with the Bush fanatics tried a few days ago to pull the wool over everyones eyes yet again, by claiming lebanon wanted the syrians out when in fact this demonstration today had crowds of hundreds of thousands while the anti syrian crowd on monday which was made up mainly of xstians and druze numbered tens of thousands shows you can never trust the western media along with their lying politicians. Racist US can never stop intefering leopard never changes its spots!
Re: Crunch time in Lebanon: Pro-Syrian protests, Tuesday 8th March
In this case expect a military draft. US forces are stretched out thin in middle east so we are going to draft new non volunteer soldiers, preferably gujraatis living in America. We have just too many of them and we don’t mind getting rid of few. :gujraati-soldier:
