Cricketers are already paid too much these days. The prize amount does seem to be a bit over the top. That's why some of them behave like spoilt brats even upstarts. This prize offer should have come with a condition attached to it. If Pakistan don't make it to the semis then each player would donate 1 lac rupees to a charity in Pakistan :)

I am not in favour of these cash incentives. They should win it for Pakistan and for thier own love of the game and love for their country. All the players are very well looked after when it comes to money.

I think there is nothing wrong with it. If they won, there will be much much more than these PCB prize monies. Specially, Pakistan doesn't have main sponser as India has SAHARA, they can get a similar sponsership for 5-10 year sponsership.
Now it will totally upto PCB where it would invest, on grass root level or khudday openers and chukkers in NCA. They already have Rs. 5 Billion in their treasurey, only if they spend it wisely, Pakistan will produce great cricketers in decades to come.

This is just to level the playing field with the bookies. Now the bookies' offers to throw the games will sound less enticing.

If these players do not feel pride in playing for the country then they should not be playing at all, period. Mushy and company believe in throwing money will motivate people which has yet to work anywhere for anybody, at the end of the day there are greater things than plain money. Sometimes we have to play for self-respect, pride, to be the best and matter.

Very good point. Now it seems like PAK players only try hard because of money. If PCB really wanted to reward them, they should have been rewarded once WC was over. It is very sad and pathetic to see such statements to motivate professional players who represent their countries. This further suggest that few players pushed their ways into selection of 15 players since no matter if they contribute or not they will get such money.
Though I know I will offend many hard core Pakistani fans (My apologize in advance), but I sincerely pray for Akhtar and Asif to have drug level above accepted so that they wouldnt play for Pakistan, then if players of like Rao and kaneria if they could make the team to semi then they should get the money. Otherwise, I will be more than happy to see Pakistan going home at the end of super eight (wish if they wouldnt make to super eight either). So that I could cheer for Sri Lanka or SA as a cricket fan.

Well Nasim Ashraf did what he thought will be the best. Since he lived and probably a dual citizen of Pakistan and USA, and in west the most important thing is money, that is why Ashraf was in USA and is in Pakistan now since he is getting paid more, so he thought that is the only way to motivate Pakistani players.
I am sure many of Pakistani players will be geared up to cash on this money, but many of them will be offended by it too, especially players like Younis, Yousaf and may be yes may be Inzi too.
I wouldnt be suprise if Bari is taking 10% from players like Rao and Kaneria, and he may be demanding 50% from the reserve players to be selected as replacement for Akhtar and Asif.

It should be a good disincentive to throw a game away. Not a bad idea. What about Actor and Asif though? Should he announce 10,000,000 Rs ea. for getting their acts together? 
And I think Asif is hangin’ out with the wrong guy. Poor Asif, the Board should be at the forefront of guiding and helping this young player.

LAHORE: President General Pervez Musharraf has advised the Pakistan cricket squad selected for World Cup to forget about their recent defeat in South Africa and storm the mega event out with patriotic fervour in Caribbean.
At a ceremony titled ‘Cricket Bahaar’ held in honour of Pakistani squad at Qaddafi Stadium on Saturday, Musharraf told the audience that he watches Pakistan cricket matches with great zeal and enthusiasm and his staff keeps him informed bit by bit about the match situation if he can’t make it himself before television.
Commenting on Pakistan’s last tour of South Africa, he said that Pakistani squad should not be scared by defeat and try to learn from their mistakes during the tour. He directed them to play every match in World Cup with great team spirit and patriotic enthusiasm, saying the whole nation will pray for them.
He expressed full confidence in the squad, especially in Inzamam’s captaincy, saying he is hopeful to see Pakistan as making it big in Caribbean.
On the occasion, PCB chief Dr Naseem Asfhraf announced to reward Rs5 million each for winning the World Cup, Rs2.5 million for reaching in the final, and Rs1.2 million for making it to the semi-finals.
