I remember with a UK student visa on my Pakistani passport, we were allowed to go to Switzerland visa-free. Don’t know if that is still valid.

Earlier when Switzerland was not part of the Schengen a UK Residence visa of any type other than tourist / visit allowed the holder to travel without a visa to Switzerland, however now that Switzerland is part of the Schengen, you need a Schengen visa to travel there, even if you hold a UK Student / Work visa.
