Again, “minimal” is relative.
What is minimal to someone spending $40K on an event might be completely extravagant to you!

I highly recommend you come up with a number you can afford per event and then divide it backwards into the different areas of expenditure. This is how I did it: http://images.marthastewart.com/images/content/web/pdfs/pdf3/wedding_workbook.pdf

You can adjust the areas of expenditure to fit a desi wedding here and there but overall it kept me on track and on time. Print it and fill it out tonight just off the top of your head and then discuss it with family to see what they think. Then come back and give us a figure and I’m sure we’ll be able to guide you on whether it needs to be higher or lower.
