Controlling culture

Re: Controlling culture

marriage is already a compromise and with watta satta arrangement the extent of compromise bound you consider your sister's future even when conveying something right to your wife (she doesn't like).

Re: Controlling culture

Arrange marriages, get to know phase eliminates many doubts.... watta satta, as is condition.

Re: Controlling culture

Once married, its upto the individuals to not be manipulayed by others and if they don't have a backbone, then, well no marriage is good for them.

Re: Controlling culture

Wht doubts? If the guy has enough money and goodwill or if the girl is pretty enough with the right education or family background?

Re: Controlling culture

Its just a little more risky.
If arranged marriage can be treated as a business deal and be accepted...then satta watta is similar..with a lil more risk and benefits too.

Re: Controlling culture

No, I'm not in favor of Satta watta. I just wanted to point out how its similar to arranged marriages nowadays :)

Re: Controlling culture

people do that considering benefits, but at the end of the day, I have seen many examples where misunderstanding between one couple lead to two divorces.

Re: Controlling culture

You are right. Enough money, good job, good will, education, background are basic filter of marriage proposal. But, individual traits, habits, hobbies, lifestyle, thought process, anger management are also needed in review process...

Understanding and realization are key...

How is an arrange marriage a business deal?

Re: Controlling culture

well as I said in post# 23 ... if they don't hv a backbone...they arent worth staying in a marriage.

Re: Controlling culture

How is it not?
Aren't the rishtas filtered on both sides?
Good job, money , education, background, looks, goodwill , ability to cook, location od residence and so on.
Different criteria for different people. Just like a business deal.

Re: Controlling culture

Disagree..

I didn’t know this was called a business deal :cb:

Re: Controlling culture

1- in most arranged marriages they dont get to know each other well still.
2- satta watta arrangement isnt done with anyone on the street who has a son n a daughter. Other things are considered as well and if the family is moderate enough...they can let the 4 know each other...if they arent moderate...even if not a satta watta...they wont let the to be husband-wife know each other before marriage

Sanu kee kar lain disagree :snooty:

Re: Controlling culture

Its a deal.. ek hath le ek de de :hehe:

Its not wrong in absolute terms, but complications do arise in most cases

Re: Controlling culture

Its very similar.

Re: Controlling culture

Filmi dialogue: jin rishton ki buniyad sharton pe rakhi jae, wo aksar panap nahin paate...
