Have you considered pumping for the night feeds.... that way atleast on the weekends the husband can take a feed or two so you can rest......
I use to pump, and on weekdays my husband would take the 11:00 pm and the 7:00 am feeds so I could rest and then on the weekend he would take the one in the middle of the night as well....
I did use to pump when he was 2 months old so hubby could feed him during the night but he refused to take the bottle eventhough it was breastmilk...hubby gave up easily when he screamed so we went back to breastfeeding during night time as well.
I dont mind feeding him. Its just that all the other 5 months old babies I know of - they are all sleeping through the night and only waking up once for milk while mine wakes me up 5 times a night EVERY night which is exhausting me extremly. It also effects my energy level during the day so I am not able to keep up socially. dont even have the capacity to call anyone..milna to door ki baat hai..quiet much loneliness as a result of this!!
It might be worth persisting in offering him a bottle so that you get some break. Keep nursing and all, just periodically try the bottle so he gets used to it.

Yeah thats the plan but he litereally screams so loudly when we offer him the bottle....dont know if its the bottle or the milk...perhaps we can give him the supplemting milk in some other way?
You can try using your own pumped milk first. It's just a matter of him getting used to things.
Also, yes try to get him to sleep for longer periods of time, but don't worry that it feels like all babies his age are doing it. They aren't. Usually it's only 5-7hrs at a time, but many are not doing that. I met a couple whose 11mo still wasn't sleeping through the night. And I just saw an interview with actress Amy Adams talking about her 18mo who still wakes up during the night!

thanks for the advice Sahar.will try to pump tomorrow inshaAllah:)
Also, what pump are you using? I was using th Avent Isis hand pump, and had about 4oz of milk in 10 minutes. People raved about how amazing the electric pumps were, so I tried different ones, but they tool LONGER than the Avent Isis, including the hospital grade pump, and my milk decreased. I switched back to the Avent Isis. This was years ago, before their electric pump came out, so I don't know how that one compares.
Oh gosh i remember the tiredness. I have heard breastfed babies tend to get hungrier more often. My daughter did the same, despite everyone around me telling me she should be going through the night without a feed. She would wake up often at night until i stopped breastfeeding at 18 months. Thats when she started sleeping through the night. Before that, it was a comfort issue with her, even though she slept with us in our bed.
At his age, try soothing him in other ways at first. But its easier said than done. Usually i was so tired, it was easier to feed her than to get up and pace around with her. Try rocking him if you can or let your husband handle him for a weekend or so. I totally sympathize with you.

cheez if he does the same thing for next 12 months I will def. go mad!
I freeze a lot so our heater was at 25 degrees but last night I turned it down to 10 and he slept much better. I heard that babies sleep better in cold rooms so I wanted to giv that a try. He "only" woke up 4 times and for the first time in weeks I had 3 hours sleep without any disturbance. Usually he would wake up every 2nd hour in the past 6-8 weeks.
So I will give it a try with colder room and just sleep with warmer clothes myself, and trying to get him used to paci and bottle milk in addition to rice cereal for the evening meal...I hope inshaAllah that will help.
I was so desperate the other day that I drank zam zam and made dua that my milk would made him feel full for longer periods:D
are you starting him on solids soon? maybe offering him so solids along with the breast before he sleeps might keep him going longer.
we have started solids but not full portions yet. he sleeps 2-3 hours at a time and then hungry again...I tried to sooth him last night without offering him milk rightaway but he just needs the milk and falls asleep some minutes later....
