It's not for the prisoners, its for the spouses they have outside.

There cannot be a correct answer to this.

Perhaps it should be based on short term or long term incarceration and the severity of crime.

Sorry. Prisoners are put in cages for a reason. If they sexually abuse their fellow inmates then they need to be further punished. NOT rewarded with a nice night out with wifey.

Its not about the prisoners only, its about their wives too. If she doesn’t ‘get it’ then she can cheat on him which could cause greater problems if he finds that out.

Yes, other countries have allowed prisoners to have conjugal visits for years. The laws vary from country to country...state to state. The countries that make up the UK and northern Ireland (I think you said you were from Ireland) don't allow conjugal visits.

Usually a separate room along with sanitation items and contraception is provided. In the US, the inmates are checked for STDs. Hopefully, the Sindh Government will also provide privacy and exercise precaution. Also, in some countries conjugal visits are considered a "privilege" that has to be earned by the prisoner and can be revoked.

Joking aside, I really dont like the idea of conjugal visits for inmates at all. They were sent to JAIL. For punishment. They should not be allowed a private night with their spouse no matter what sex the spouse happens to be. They should remain caged and hard at work until their debt to society is paid in full. I dont care what country you’re talking about, USA, pak, whereEVER. Criminals should not get niceties.

I don’t think they should be allowed to do this. They are under a punishment and they should be deprived of things & rights that a free man (who is not under a punishment) can enjoy & is entitle of .

and one more thing what if the wifey gets pregnant after visiting her husband in jail. Then who will take care of the baby ? Hubby is in jail so he can not go out & earn so what will be the wifey do ? then they will be sending their blessing to the people who allowed conjugal visits. The child will also be without a father and will be on raham o karam of others. Wifey will then also not be able to file a case of child support.

Jailers here extort hundreds of rupees from relatives of a prisoner, before sanctioning a simple 15 minute meeting.... I think we can all imagine what they'll demand in this case..... :(

i agree with mama and others who think its not right. prison is supposed to be a place of punishment, not pleasure.

someone said that it would stop wives from cheating, but a strong faith in islam should prevent this, not getting the chance to spend the night with hubby! rather than allowing this in order to prevent homosexual attacks or wives cheating etc, they should look at teaching the wrongs of these according to islam, seeing as its an islamic state.

plus in Pakistan (and other places), people get framed for stuff so there can be innocent people there anyways.

Apart from getting framed, if you hit someone with your car no matter if it was only an accident, you go to jail.

There are many other situations which makes us think its possible for anyone to land in jail.

That's a thought that came to my mind as well. It's a realistic possibility to consider.

The other factor is the rape of younger inmates (who maybe in for lesser charges) by longer sentenced prisoners. If the biological needs of prisoners can be taken care of by letting them meet their wives then this is one ugliness that can be stopped.
