Rooney was especially ineffective during corners. He didn't even come close to winning a single ball. The only corner kick he took was way off the mark. Sterling in the 2nd half tried too much solo.

It has become fashionable for commentators to call Balotelli unreliable. Balotelli makes things look easy with his superior skill. In addition to the winning goal, he won several balls.

Italy controlled the game. Their midfield was much superior. Where was Lampart.

And what was up with italys right winger (daniell?) doing whatever he wanted.. very weak England defense on the left side in the first half.

Yes. Rooney did miss that sitter in the 2nd half that could have tied it. He doesn't appear to be an international caliber player. English press seems to hype him.

Lampard is past it. Rooney is overrated. He puts in some good stuff for Utd but being out of position doesn't help. Other than Euro 2004 he has been very poor in international matches.

Anyone with some knowledge of football would find this statement laughable.

Rooney has gotten Utd winning numerous league titles and a champions League. International football yes he is overrated.
