It seems as if there is a deadlock on CM Balochistan. I am sure Nawaz Sharif wants Dr Maalik, where as PMLN provincial leadership wants the slot for themselves.

CM selection is perhaps the first real test of Nawaz Sharif's statesmanship in 2013. Whether he will at least try to act as a national leader who is somewhat concerned about the country's interests at large or whether he will be a parochial leader with just his party's interests at heart?
From what I have read from Baloch intellectuals, Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch is the only contender whose name is being floated for CM-ship who is actually somewhat acceptable to the Baloch, who are after all the primary stakeholders of their land. We must remember that in many Baloch-dominant areas of Balochistan, the recent election turnout was as low as 10%. The election results and the composition of Balochistan's provincial assembly therefore are hardly reflective of the aspirations of the Baloch people even if we rule out rigging and deliberate engineering of the election outcome. Pakistan cannot afford any Chief Minister in Balochistan who will be seen as a puppet of the military-security establishment. Both Nawabzada Changez Marri and, worse, Sardar Sanaullah Zehri are frontrunners for the CM-post because they are members of PML-N but they are, at best, polarizing figures in Balochistan who will not be able to win over the people. If Nawaz caves in to his party's power-hungry hawks and appoints one of those two as Balochistan's Chief Minister, then he will be doing that to Pakistan's detriment.

next step is taking Akhtar Mangal on board, give them good percentage of royalty of the minerals and resources we use. give them permissions and support them to start mining gold/copper, start a massive development program for Balochistan. give them water for irrigation, bring young baloch brethren to other parts of Pakistan in govt jobs, etc etc. But at the same time, very tight check needed on foreign powers trying to derail this process. The situation can take turn towards good or bad very fast.

PMLN has passed the first test successfully. This decision could help in resolving the issue or balochistan. Win win situation for the country, I am sure Punjab, kpk and balochistan would fare better than the previous five years. I hope Sindh also picks up its act as well.

Dr malik is a middle class person from turbat. First chief minister from the middle class (not a Sardar) and he belongs to the same area as Allah nazar Baloch. I am sure he will be able to defuse the situation in the province.

Very mature decision by PMLN & NS. Despite having PMLN tickets, these sardars are not going to PMLN's. Its a first step in right direction for balochistan & I hope it proves to be the right decision.

I am very happy.....this is the kind of statesmanship pakistan needs right now...down all sardars in Baluchistan...you sardars have created nothing but hell for people in baluchistan....go to hell!
and I also appreciate that nawaz sharif has been very fair in NWFP and let PTI make the government....in particular he did not entertain idiot fazal ur rehman in NWFP to block Imran khan...
i also appreciate the spirirt of some hardcore PTIans on this forum....give the credit where it is due.
I also want Nawaz sharif to give pujab chief minster-ship to someone else but shabaz sharif...that will also set an example....
