Re: Cleaning Their Room
OK, I hate clutters too, almost OCD about it. I work with her once a week to clean her room, we have bins/drawers where things go and I show her how when she's done with something to put it where it goes, that way things are neat and when she is looking for something she knows where to look. The key is to NEVER clean FOR them, make them do it. Lila often says "Help me clean up" and I say "You didn't need help making the mess so you're certainly not going to get help cleaning it up". I usually save my cleaning lessons for when she really wants to do something. SO if she wants to go to the playground, I will say "Yes let's go, let her get dressed and psyched for it, then I'll walk into her room and say "Well, we HAVE to clean up before we go", that is good motivation for her. So she is starting to get that at any minute we might be ready to do something fun, go to the playground, ipad time, play swords, whatever, and she knows that at any time I might pull the "wweeeelll, we have to clean up first", so she keeps it pretty tidy for a 6 year old. Mashallah. Also, my brother calls me a jallaad.
