Nadia:
The entire quote from my post unedited is “It appears as if the anti-American crowd wants to equate prolonged detention without charges to torture.”
As I indicated, there are “lots of things you can complain about regarding US policies and still be intellectually honest.” I do not necessarily include within the “anti-American crowd” those who wish to carry on a discussion and/or critisize US policy in an intellectually honest way. BUT, if you scream “TORTURE” and try to advance your argument by dishonestly trying to interpret clear international conventions as including Al Qaeda fighters within the definition of POWs and then dishonestly try to use ICRC complaints of prolonged detention as proof of torture, then, I conclude such a person is reasonably categorized as part of the “anti-American crowd.”
I did not state that YOU, personally, have done any of the above. You are the best judge of whether you have stated, implied or inferred any of the above and therefore whether you belong in the category you object to.
There is a distinct difference between a person who is a “pro-American with dissenting views” versus a person who is part of the “anti-American crowd.” The frequent US contributors to GS seem to be pretty good at differentiating between the two. We know them when we see them.
