I do not think this issue is that macro that needs to be addressed in a large scale concern.It happens in any society where intricated family relationships do exist.Moreover,this issue is quite regional for the reason that education,customs etc play a big role.
It was indeed a widow who had led India for years ,being in the P.M's office,as P.M and it was none other that Indira Gandhi :)
