Death of a loved one is a very sad event, but i do agree many desis, especially Punjabis behave odd. The women i mean, they suddenly throw away their head scarfs, shout at full power and their arms widely fling.

They have a funeral director like a marriage planner who directs the services…Meaning, even in death they have certain times when they can cry and when they should not…Where to stand, where to sit, where to go e.t.c…Even their emotions are planned…What kind of burial is that?

I would rather someone just wrapped me up in two plain pieces of cloth and anyone who wants to cry, cry and anyone who doesn’t want to, doesn’t…Simple…

How can you plan grief? Obviously the church goers can…It’s not spontaneous, not natural and definitely not from the heart…

I beg to differ. It may be planned at times as to how to carry out the funeral. However, the grief, pain, and loss are all real. It hurts them just as much it hurts us when our loved ones pass away.

It’s not odd. It makes perfect sense to me. Since goras are more materialistic and less emotionally attached to people therefore they don’t get really sad after the death of a relative. On the contrary we desis are tied emotionally very closely to our relatives and thus their loss brings lots of grief and sorrow for us.

“Gora’s” have the same emotion as non Gora’s… it was not washed out of their make up as their skin bleached over ther years.

Perhaps that is just opinion since many people feel prayer is best expressed when spontaneous and heart felt while others feel rehearsed and planned prayers are the better option.

Though I don’t necessarily agree with Lajawab but I disagree with you as well, there are different types of “prayers”, one you can say ANYTIME you feel like, also called “dua”, then there are “mandatory” prayers (actually “salaat” is the real word which loses its meaning in translation) which you have to “plan” and say when required.

I have met them. I live in Texas in a small town of rednecks. What do you expect?
I still stand by to what I wrote earlier. I didn’t want to generalize but the way they do their funerals forces me to believe that they don’t have any grief of their loved ones passing away. I mean who in his right mind feels like dressing up in nice suits for death of someone. An average funeral in US cost $ 5,000. Goras have become so materialized that they are compelled to spend thousands of dollars in a funeral even if they can’t afford it. Funerals have become commercialized like every other occasion of theirs like Christmas etc. Why can’t they bury their dead relatives with simple funeral? Why everything has to be so immaculate in their lives including funerals? That’s beyond my understanding.

Gora weddings can cost thousands of dollars too, does that mean there is no love or sincerity in their neptuals? I agree that commercialization has invaded most aspects of American life but that in no way takes away from the sorrow and sadness most feel when a loved one dies. Most feel that the extravagence and nice suits show respect toward the departed and do not detract from the grief they feel.

well, my assist principal MISS JACKSON MALONE 32 died over this week end and they had her funeral ceremony done today .. i had no plan to attend the ceremony at all but my friend came to pick me up and offered me ride and promised to pay the toll-way himself too so i went along with him .. i went to this church which was set up REALLY REALLY NICE .. interior construction was so owesom and they had church choir and band and some priest dude dressed up red was playing electric piano ive never seen such piano board before they had projectors across the church walls and 2 big big screens hanging .. a seperate comp room .. it was just sooo owesom .. people came on stage off and on to xpress their feelings and how they met her for the first time .. and personally i think though she was bare strict about my beard but she was the life of school walking on two legs. they had a lil pray .. a few holly songs .. her mem pichaz .. and etc … i always wondered how wud they actually work in church but i got to admit as far this FUNERAL ceremony goes .. ITS 100 times better then how desi families react .. how desi people cry until their lungs get sour … how they hit on their own-self .. how they act wild …

I think it doesn’t has to do with christianity and islam..it is about environment. Here people are not THAT emotional. Like in our family, (we are christians)…when we had our grand father’s funeral here…we cried and all but weren’t that emotional because we believe soul is in heaven already..no use of crying..coz after they are in better place with god.
