Undoubtedly the US was torn, because flooding a war zone with weapons is NOT the best move, particularly if you believe that you will have to insert your own troops into the region. What I flat-assed do not understand is why there is such stubborn idiocy regarding the US intervention in the Balkans among Muslims. You were too late, you did not do enough, you used DU and lethal weapons (well, yes), you did not send enough troops, you sent muslims arms (oh wait, that might be good), blah, blah, blah. Frickin' ingrates. Next time you are being slaughtered by the hundreds of thousands, either fix it yourself or call Great China. I am sure China will get back to you in a decade or so. Call the UN? Sorry, they can't even help Darfur. (oh wait, Muslims doing the killing there).
Hiccup- You are right. US and UK troops participated because they believed in the mission, not because of any religious belief. Infact, I believe that citizens in the west are largely SO secular that they are pathologically incapable of thinking in terms of one religion versus another. With that said, the simple fact is that the overwhelming majority of troops from the US were probably "Christian".

Muslim states likely sent 100,000 troops and fighters also on a rotational basis to help the Bosnian’s,and providing them arms and aid from practically day one i.e. in 1992. Not like you American’s who sat by for three years until 1995 while Serbian Christian extremists killed hundreds of thousands of Muslims, expelled over a million of them from half their country, and then turned round to enforce a “peace” based on territorial conquest and genocide. Also, I am not interested in the rantings of zionist writing in a pro-Israel site like Middle East Forum , which clearly states on it’s main page “Promoting American interests”.

So lets go back and look at the “Causes” for US intervention in the Balkans. Were Americans giving selflessly to help persecuted Muslims, or was there are darker more sinister capitalist plot afoot? Since we have endured years of Anti-Americans running about with their hair on fire ranting, “It’s the oil Stupid” (because that is rather easy for a simpleton to memorize). It might be instructive to look at the Balkans and see how that worked out.
The theory at the time was that the “prize” of the war, and the real “cause” of US intervention was a huge industrial mining complex called Trepca. The theory was that this mining complex was the “Real” reason for US intervention. The Anti Americans, including many Muslims here would have a field day with this juicy conspiracy theory.
On August 14th NATO forces swooped down into the Zvecan smelter in Kosovo and seized the last remaining bit of Yugoslav government owned property - the Trepca mining complex. This action directly violates UN Security Council Resolution 1244 which concluded the war and reaffirmed Yugoslav sovereignty over the province.
That morning, workers were greeted with a shower of tear-gas and rubber bullets as they went to work. Since then Kosovska Mitrovica’s workers have been holding daily protests in front the plant, while a dozen members of the plants management are still refusing to leave the offices of the smelter. It now appears that the US-backed administrator of Kosovo, Bernard Kouchner (who rules by decree) has decided to hand over these Yugoslav state properties to a Western mining consortium ITT Kosovo. Please contact these firms and otherwise express your outrage at this undemocratic, militaristic, imperialistic theft of Yugoslav property.

The sad fact is that the mines have remained in the hands of the Kosovar government who borrowed heavliy against them, and that they have run the mines into the ground, and have no declared them bankrupt with little hope of repaying the loans against them, with mine output the lowest in two decades. Oooopps. So much for the “It’s all about the Mines!” theory about why the US intervened.
Kosovo To Spin-off Indebted Trepca Lead/Zinc Group To Avert Bankruptcy
PRISTINA (Serbia and Montenegro), May 12 (SeeNews) - The UN-run southern Serbian province of Kosovo said on Thursday it plans to restructure indebted Trepca lead and zinc mining and smelting group through a spin-off to avert the company’s bankruptcy.
“The proposed spin-off will be subject to approval by the government in the next two weeks,” Kosovo government spokesman Daut Dauti told SeeNews.
Spin-offs have been used by the Kosovo privatisation authority to clear the debts of state-owned companies ahead of privatisation.
The details of the spin-off are yet to be discussed, Dauti added.
He also said that several international companies have already shown interest in the lead and zinc mines but declined to name them.
“The restructuring of the mines comes as a result of their very bad condition. Their debts are estimated at 200 million euro ($255.37 million) and their production last year was at its lowest level for the last two decades,” Dauti added.

Oh I know what the issue is...you are mistakingly assigning blame to the US. You should do some research, read a few books, interview Holbrooke and Wes Clark and then come up with an opinion on American complicity. Otherwise you sound like someone stole your lunch money...again.
