Yeah a lot of the stuff mixes over. Like we have a lot of Sindhi and Bilochi folk stories in Punjabi even. I never knew about this story though, this is interesting. Kind of reminds me of that one by Qadar Yar: Puran Bhagat. Ever heard of that?

I heard of Puran Bhagt as Ajoka Thetres did a theatre drama on the subject.
