China, Pakistan agree N-plant deal

Did’nt I read somewhere couple of weeks ago that the deal was stalled because of the Indian influence

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) – China will sell Pakistan a second nuclear power plant next year to help solve its energy problems, government officials said Wednesday.
The power plant will be built in Chashma, 225 kilometers (135 miles) southwest of Islamabad, and will be able to generate 600 megawatts of power, two Pakistani officials said on condition of anonymity.
China, a longtime ally, sold Pakistan a nuclear power plant with the same capacity in the 1990s that also was built in Chashma.
Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali met with Pakistani nuclear scientists on Tuesday and asked them to speed work on the new project next year, the officials said

Chashma-2 agreement signing expected soon

The 300-megawatt Chashma-2 (C-2) nuclear power plant project will start soon, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Chairman Pervez Butt Daily told Daily Times on Tuesday. The PAEC chairman said the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KNUPP) had already started production, but he would not give a date when the C-2 project would begin.

Sources said that Pakistan and China were discussing the C-2 project and would reach an agreement soon. China will provide financial and technical assistance for the project. Sources said the KNUPP was producing 33 percent of its production level of 137 megawatts and the production would be increased gradually. The PAEC chairman said that his organisation was working to explore the origin of life in the universe in collaboration with the European Centre for Nuclear Research (ECNC). He said the PAEC was providing technical assistance to the ECNC and likely to get $10 million in profit
