International Herald Tribune reports

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger -- Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

its a good news to hear that our economy is going very good...but making a statement that it has surpassed india is totally false....there are many many more economic variables to take into account before making such a statement ....just basing it on 8.4% growth rate doesnt prove anything...india is a very big economy compared to us...
this 8.4% rise is definitely a good sign...we are getting there but we still have a long way to go....hope that we keep on progressing aaameen

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger -- Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

^^ sure, but thread was about Pakistan replacing india as second fastest growing economy in the world though the size of economies are not comparable and it cant be cause india is a huge country compared to Pakistan, So Pakistan will be much better off than india if it sustain this growth rate, we have fewer people to take care in our country.
acquiring this pace itself is and acheivment for Pakistan.

no one is comparing size of economy here and it shouldnt be compared.

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger -- Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

pakistan has an economy? since when? this guy musharaf is something ain't he!

pssst: does anyone know the Citibank capex number and pakistan's annual budget? or we can accept Fortune 10 revenue to gdp

only way pakistan can challlenge china is by becoming state #52 or #30

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger -- Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

Atlantis,

The point is Pak was almost bankrupt in 1999. The Hindians were bashing Pak and calling it a failed state. But in 5 years pak has turned around its bankrupt economy and made it the second fastest economy in the world !!!!

The Pak economy is being privatized and has been reformed. It is expected that the economy will grow 7-8% for at least the next 10 years.

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger -- Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

PBH - I certainly agree with you about pakistan having made good strides relative to where it was 5 years ago.

But look at the title of this thread. Pakistan challenging China or India? come on.

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger – Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

The article was NOT writen by a Pak. It was writen by an INDIAN andy Mukharjee. And it was published in International herald Tribune which is NOT a pak newspaper. So there is no pro-pak bias in it.

The health and the growth rate of an economy is measured in GDP growth rate. Pakistan has a better Gdp growth rate (%) then India right now.

Indian economy is bigger then Pak economy, but Pak economy is growing at a faster rate at 8.4%

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger -- Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

^ You're missing the point. DOESN'T MATTER WHO WROTE IT. Do you think it is credible to think the tiny pakistani economy can somehow challenge China and India? different leagues

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger -- Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

i dont think andy mukarjee is a indian, i think hes a singaporean and the article was written in bloomberg

and yes atlantis, pakistans economy is tiny compared to china and india, but it is growing fast and good thing is the growth rate rapidly increasing every year, it has doubled in the last 5 years and im sure it would double again to 16% in the next 5 years,

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger – Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

where did the author claim that pakistan’s economy is challenging chini or hindians in size. He is comparing GROWTH RATE not the SIZE. Read before you suffer from more brain farts.

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger – Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

how long can American aid sustain such a growth rate when practically no FDI is going into Pakistan and foreign investor confidence remains very low?

for example, today on BBC:

Pakistan needs to be seen as an alternative to any of those^ countries to talk about challenging anybody…until then such talk is meaningless.

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger -- Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

who said no FDI is coming into pakistan, do some research before you fart.

pakistans FDI is growing rapidly and they got $1 billion FDI last year.

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger – Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

16% is bit over the top. That simple mathamatics doesnt work with economics.
To achive 16% growth rate in five years you need to find cure of baldness and get it patented.

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger – Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

read the headline …left to right

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger – Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

ahh, atlantis the great thinker. Once again, speaking out of the ass rather than the mouth. The title says exactly what I said it was about. Author compares the GROWTH RATE of the countries. Not once does he say that pakistani economy as a whole is in competition with china regarding size.

here, let me say it in another way so your sensitive brain can process the information.

CHINA- THAT’S THE COUNTRY SITUATED IN ASIA

HAS A- I AM HOPING YOU CAN ATLEAST FIGURE OUT WHAT THAT MEANS

NEW- MEANING SOMETHING THAT JUST STARTED OR SOMETHING THAT WAS CREATED RECENTLY.

GROWTH CHALLENGER- NOW PAY ATTENTION HERE. THIS CAN GET TRICKY. THE AUTHOR IS TALKING ABOUT “GROWTH.” NOT SIZE. GROWTH. AGAIN, NOT SIZE, GROWTH. MEANING THAT AUTHOR HAS WRITTEN GROWTH AND NOT SIZE WHICH IN TURN MEANS AUTHOR COMPARES THE THE GROWTH RATE OF THE COUNTRIES INVOLVED AND NOT THE SIZE. GOT IT NOW.

PAKISTAN- AUTHOR AT THIS POINT DECIDES TO DISCLOSE WHO THIS GROWTH CHALLENGER IS. HE WRITES, AND I QUOTE, “PAKISTAN.”

Now be a doll and please tell me again where in the title or the article did the author puts the size of the economy of both countries into competition.

now read what I said… left to right.

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger -- Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

atlanta - normally we prescribe some education to cure foolishness but there are cases such as you where that obviously gets wasted.

so I'll break it down one more time. and if you still don't get it, have it translated by someone you can trust.

CHALLENGE - that's the key word here.

Indian economy (ito GDP) is about 10 times that of paks. To 'challenge', pakistan has to 'grow' at 10+ TIMES the rate at which Indian economy grows. If India grows its economy by 6%, that represents about $200 billion (just the growth, not the size, which you don't want to talk about). pakistan's entire GDP is just $300+ billion, counting donations in.

Assuming you have passed atleast middle school level arithemetic, you can see that to even match India's growth (forget size) pakistan has to grow at the rate of roughly 67%. An 8 or 9% growth therefore DOES NOT represent any gain. Anything under 67% simply represents how smaller your economy is getting in relation to that of Inida.

China's economy is atleast double the size of India. So if you want see if pakistan is CHALLENGING China in growth, just double all the above numbers by 2 or 2.25.

In conclusion, pakistan is in no position to CHALLENGE China either in size or growth. IOW, if China is an elephant, pakistan economy may be described as a pimple in the elephant's ass.

Don't feel too bad though - there is a strictly clerical arguement you can make - for example, say your cage mate grows 5KG of bananas and you grow 8lbs of bananas. You can claim 8 is bigger than 5 but that don't mean you grew more bananas.

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger – Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

firstly, why are you screaming?

secondly, there is a difference between growth and growth rate. i had no idea this was such a hard concept to process.

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger -- Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

pm s aziz is in state of euphoria the economy growing for him and growing for politicians and generals. wait till the rug get pulled out under their feet.

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger – Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

lolllll, the correlations are soooooo off!!

Dudeeee, relaxx, so what if Pak is better than India, jeeez

Re: China Has a New Growth Challenger -- Pakistan - (Bloomberg)

Guys, if you are through with your pissing match.....

Pakistan historically had a higher economic growth rate than India. This was till the jihad mentality took over in the late 80s & the 90s. I presume that this jihad mentality is waning now. And you can see the result - back to good economic growth.

There is a lesson here somewhere for Pakistan if it chooses to learn?
