I used to work full time but half day from the office and rest from home. The nanny stayed at my home with my kids. I did not like the idea of my kids getting up too early to go to daycare, unless it was for school. Also, I liked the idea of them being comfortable in their own home. It only made sense financially with the nanny staying part time and she loved the hours. If I had to stay extra hours occasionally at the office, I paid her extra or my husband helped out sometimes. But basically it was the nanny. The nanny took them out too to parks etc.
The saving bit depends upon your lifestyle and income. It is possible to save but you shall have to cut down on some or a lot of things.
