I agree. This language is so un-statesmanlike and totally inappropriate for a forum like the UN. Whatever the world might think of Bush, Chavez has done a dis-service to his image internationally by behaving like a high school kid.

Chavez is an ego-maniac. Imagine being ruled by a guy who can give a speech for 6 hours. The Venezuelan economy is a wreck, despite huge oil wealth. Chavez is playing ego games at the expense of his people. Waving a populist flag is easy when you control a huge flow of cash to pay off your friends and bury your enemies.

But Arabs have embraced this buffoon as a great leader and soon you could see Arab leaders acting like Chavez but in the end despite all their filibuster they wont be able to do anything.

Chavez still sells oil to USA and without USA buying Venezuelan oil, Venezuela's economy will collapse.

US support for dictators in Muslims countries is because the alternative would be uneducated populations, governments and militaries ruled by extremists. They were not but they were wholly corrupt and were terrible for pakistan

The biggest problem with 3rd world democracies is that there is no institution to monitor these people.

Thats why there are so many coup such as the recent one in Thailand where the PM was a billionaire.

What needs to happen is solid institutions need to be established such as the Supreme Court, and other anti-corruption agencies which have the power to bring charges to the people in office.

And they have to be reputable and only then can democracy succeed in the 3rd world
