Pretty much all the big guns won their opening games - Manchester United, both the Milan sides, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Juventus all winning - however Deportivo were held to a draw.

but then again, Depor aren't a big gun ;)
I reckon Deportive are one of the big Guns NeSCio.

^^Agreed
Spoke a little too soon didn’t u? :nahnah: 2 goals on the weekend including one with his very first touch. :nahnah: I’m sure he just had an off day against Sparta Prague. Also, as Ranieri pointed out, his pre season training hasnt been the same as the rest of the squad so while his stamina level is ok, apparently he hasnt been doing much speed work.
Deportivo are a good team, but i wouldn't rate them among the best. The quality they possess can at best bring them to the quarter finals but not beyond. And with the departure of Makaay they've lost their most valuable asset.
Yeah Roy proved his worth for Bayern with the 2 goals that he scored against Celtic.
I would say this season they would be looking to get to the Semi-Finals possibly - they are top of La Liga and are the only side to have a 100% record.

Roy Makaay is no doubt a good Goal Scorer...but so is Diego Tristan.Infact for most of last year Tristan was cooling his heels on the bench as he was injured for most part of the season. But now he is back and rocking!!Also,Walter Pandiani is a good striker. Moreover selling Roy Makaay to Bayern was a good deal for them financially.I think Depor have the best chance of being second to Real Madrid in la Liga...and reaching Quarters (mebbe Semis) in Champions League.I don't think even with presence of Makaay would hav got them more than this.
Hey guys...wat do u say about Real's upcoming match against Porto on Wednesday,Oct 1??
The 2-0 win of Valencia over Real Madrid in the la Liga really makes it an interesting match to watch out for.Real are the Champions League trophy contenders...but they suffered largely due to the easily incisive defence they hav. Also the plusses with Porto are tht ,firstly,They hav nothing to lose...so they can go out all guns blazing being the Under Dogs.Secondly,They play at home.Thirdly,They know wat it takes for the big matches...as they are the reigning UEFA Cup winners.
So all the pressure is on Real to regain their composure after their very disappointing performance against Valencia...where their penetrative power looked extinguished. One more minus for Real could be that probably Zinedine Zidane would not be playing due to a thigh strain as even in the Valencia match he was 70 % fit and his usual elance was missing. So its going to be one heck of a match to watch out for.Wat say abt the result guyz???I think even after considering the minuses of Real and Plusses of Porto,Real will manage to come out on top as it is a hurt tiger ready to pounce on the next opponent whoever it is.

some very interesting results and some good matches
Hope Real can win today from Porto
Hmmm.. well i have to say i wasn’t surprised at all at the Valencia match. Real are gonna struggle whole season - they don’t have any grafters in the side who will tackle for the ball. They have playmakers like Zidane and Figo but selling Claude was an unbeliveable big error! I don’t think they’ll win anything this season.
Anyhow one big chock in the games last night - Bayern held to a draw! Arsenal were crap as usual - no way will they qualify for the next stage.

Real Madrid overcame an early setback to win 3-1 away to Porto, while Olympique won 3-0
Ajax got their CL campaign underway with a superb 2-0 victory over Brugge, while Celta had a goalless draw against Milan
ManU suffered a shocking defeat 2-1
and also Chelsea lost at home to Besiktat 2-0
some surprising results....and it's showing clearly now that the English clubs are on their way back, while the Italian are taking over their spots. Juve, Milan, Inter and Lazio haven't lost any match so far.
Real seem to grow more and more as the season progresses
Yeah Italian sides are certainly dominating at the moment - its just basically them, Real, Manchester United and Bayern in the frame at the moment - and not even all of them actually - possibly not Lazio - all the other 3 for sure though.
Shock defeats for both Chelsea and Manchester United - surprised at that!

i feel sorry for ManU. with the departures of Veron and Beckham they have lost most of their allure.
some poules are wide open and it will be interesting to see what will happen in the coming weeks.
I hope they bring in 2 genuine centre-backs when the transfer window opens in january…only then do they hav a chance to win the CL.Yeah…selling off Makelele was a big mistake indeed.
well - i have to say (sorry if it sounds harsh to MU fans) that Manchester United are a falling entity - And i don’t mean it in the sense that their ability as a Soccer team is going downhill but financially and as a business they are now on a downhill spiral and it will be very hard for them regain their status as the biggest club in the world once they drop down the rich list.
Losing Peter Kenyon was an absolute financial disaster for MU- their shares plummeted around 15 Million Sterling Pounds worth - i know it doesn’t seem much with MU’s overall value at the time but it was the start - Beckham and Veron’s departure didn’t really affect MU financially - if anything MU gained as you they them for 40 Million in the end and replaced them with Kleberson and Christiano at less than half the price.
But then of course (Irish - where that’s got something to do with it ) Racehorse owner J.P. Mcmanusand his boy decided to increase their stake in the company to 23.1% shareholders - morons!!!
Of course Rupert and James Murdoch were smart enough to have offloaded the shares while they still could at a relatively (surprisingly) high price of around 2 and a halh Pence per share.
Is this the beginning of the end for Manchester United?

this week round 3 of the first phase was played
some shock results!!
Brugge beat Milan in San Siro 0-1
the dutch clubs both won their respective matches 1-0
and ManU beat Rangers to win the battle of Britton
yep Milan's loss was a big shock, i saw that match, they were really off-color.
yep Milian' lost was a massive shocker - i mean seriously what the hell happened to the Italian sides?
but the great stuff was of Arsenal's lost again which was as good as Celtics'
:D
