‘Chaa’ gaay hain janab as Irem has put it…You have ‘spread’!!
Lovely pictures…you and ur friends are looking great…reminds me of the time when I went to Naran/Kaghan with my friends a decade or so ago…I was a teenager then, almost as skinny as you and such a fob had a blast…sighz memories…koi kurri shurri nhin si team mein?
great pictures. almost all of them are truly breathtaking. you should have pursued a career in photography. not everyone can capture the true magnficence of these beautiful places.
i even envy u guys for having so much fun. and a birthday must have topped it off. u forgot to mention how ur poor friends tried to search for a candle and then had to use a matchstick.
the omelettes…kia yaad dala dia? the breakfasts that u get in these northern areas can not be matched. garam garam parathaoon ke saath unday, not to forget the doodh patti.
and we really wouldnt mind looking at some more of the pictures if it isnt much of a hassle for u.
Fayz: thanks for the kind words. A fob in pakistan…now that’s something jee ISS dafa koi kurri nahin thi…baqi Allah malik hai :halo: aap ka shukriya ke itna waqt nikaala..hamare thread main aae. Meherbani :~)
udaasaankhein: and you had to rub it in? We got the 65 rupees refund since akhri mint par kehte hain ac wali gari kharab hai Hoh..you liked the photography…not much that i did yar…the places are so great in their own right that even a casual photographer manages to capture great shots.
so you have been informed of every teeny-weeny detail of the trip…huh? matchstick one was not bad..my friends actually lit their ciggies off my poor cake as well :~(
Some more? larki tumhara dil nahin bhara itni pics se…lemme see :~)
Breathtaking scenes and photography is equal to the task Umer :k: As they say that camera cannot capture everything out there. But your comments are an interesting read too.
*All nostalgiac hoing * I wanna go again sooner rather than later.
Khanzada: The barreness of the mountains is in reality their beauty. I've been to kaghan/naran, sawat and yes they are very beautiful. Very green but easily accessible by air. I remember that there was a glacier that me and my brother were trying to climb to the top but it was soo slippery that we slipped right to the bottom of the glacier, some 50 ft below where we were just seconds ago, and then we bumped into a bench pretty hard. We did get some bumps and bruises but if it wasn't for the bench, the injuries would have been a lot worse.
I'll try to find and scan the pictures then upload it for everyone to see.
Umer when i was there, the sight of this dungeon gave me goose bumps for some reason :D And that Mir movie, pretty weird stuff huh?
You remember the guide at baltit fort? He is an awesome local dancer and he danced with two bare swords with some speed at the concert arranged for our university in hilltop.
saby: Thanks yar…and yeah…that guide..now that you mention..i think i have seen him in one of the folk dances shown on tv yar he told us about the dinner..and it was pretty expensive..you lucky duck you!
Isloo Bhai: Shukriya :~)
I’m Kool: Yar aap to kaafi adventurous hain. Allah Mian ne bacha lia aap ko..kis ne kaha tha sneakers pehen kar glacier par charhein..if i remember that glacier was pretty amazing..the one that you get right almost in the middle of your way, if you are going to Saiful Muluk. Tasveerain dikhain na plz :~)
M: Much appreciated partner. Inshallah..these places are supposed to be visited at least once…for sure.
Abhi pura thread nahin paRha hai, but this is one thread that i am definitely going to absorb from A-Z Insha’Allah. Bahaut hi zaberdast thread aap nai khola hai, Khanzada, aur pictures ka tau kia kah sakti hoon except Masha’Allah. i read all your replies to everyone, abhi sirf araam sai aapkai captions par ghaur karna hai.
Irem ki bachi!!! Why can’t girls do something like this too? :~( You better make a plan about visiting these areas and include me in your group i am SERIOUS. Try to find a few more girls who would be willing to join in the group. i am dead serious. If you can find other females willing to do something like this, maybe not for as long as Khanzada went, then i would fly from Canada to Karachi just to make this trek. (i think i just invited myself :o How culturally inappropriate :o ). i am serious yaar…why should guys have all the fun :~( i want to visit these places too, Insha’Allah.
We could get our story printed in the paper too :halo: Think about the headline: “Crazy girls plan trek to northern areas of Pakistan”
Khanzada, i want more pictures! :~D Mazaak kar rahi hoon… honestly, this thread is now one of my all-time favourite ones on Gupshup. Period. Thank you for sharing such wonderful memories with us. i hope Allah gives you more opportunities to do activities like this in the future, Insha’Allah. Aap ka pariyon wala comment was very interesting - i remember you had asked a few questions re: that.
This is soooooooo cool. Khanu, I am really, extremely jealous.
Please, please PM me all the details (Names of hotels, where to book, reliable jeep rental services, etc.)
I don´t think we can spare 10 days on our next trip to Pakistan, but we will surely try to enjoy at least a part of that (3 or 4 days). (We = My wife and I)
Nadia: I agree with you totally. This thread is my ultimate all-time favourite.
Khan sahab: One more thing that I noticed. When you listed the costs for your trip, you forgot to mention the flight from Islamabad to Skardu. How much was that?
Nadz yaar wow i was actually thinking of u when i was going thru this thred, thinking if therez one person who’s gona be able to do this thing with me n wud actually wana do it its nadia i know khyali pulao but i was thinkin that n here u replied n said the same thing!!
means Allah must have a plan for us lets see if we get a chance inshallah…and … u r invited anytime alwayz nadz…me casa es su casa…thats a spanish saying meaning my home is ur home..
Khanzada bhai boht boht shukriya for ur detailed reply with all the prices and mazeed details…thanks a lot.. and rotfl at hero cut pix
Nadia (Bibi! :p): Oh ho ho…aik to aap ne tareefain kar kar ke mujhay phula dia hai..doosra khushi is baat ki hai ke aap ne thread main ‘khalis’ wali urdu istemaal ki hai. wah wah! bohat shukriya…and where are you two chashmatoos planning to go all on your own? hehe… and thank you for all the kind words and duaain (you kinda sound like a dadi amman already :D)
digital bhai: shukriya
Umer: Well…for the benefit of everyone…i can list down the details here (i hope it is not considered as marketing though since this is for the general benefit of all and sundry).
Ok..fare from Islamabad to Skardu is Rs. 2180 for economy…but the flight is subject to weather (always!) but one of the best flights perhaps that you will ever have. The view is well…great!
INFORMATION
You can easily inform them that you have been sent by the ‘four guys from karachi’.especially the Skardu folks perhaps will remember us…especially the driver.
SKARDU
Jeep:
Shah Travel Service (Ask for Shahjee/Naeem/Rahim the driver)
Address: College Road, Skardu
Ph: 52947,52425
Fax: 52947
We got the deal for 10 days (with my destinations listed) for Rs. 19,000 total (the tip was separate of course…depends upon the individual :p)
Hotel:
Hotel Masherbrum (Perhaps the best there is..its newly made..way better than PTDC)
General Manager: Abbas Ali Khan
Front Desk: Amir
Ph: 05831-50395/96
Fax: 05831-50397
We got a 2 bed room with 2 extra mattresses for Rs. 1,000/night (that’s only for students though..families should expect around Rs. 1,500)
Hunza:
Hotel Hunza View in Karimabad (don’t have contact details…but it can’t be missed…any jeep driver would know it). As soon as you take the steep turn up the road for Karimabad..this is perhaps the first noticable thing you will hit on the road.
We got two single rooms for Rs. 350/night each! (what more can you ask for..hehe..jaan lo gae kia?)
Rama:
PTDC Motel Rama (the best place to stay i’d say. I’d recommend one to terminate his/her trip here…dil khush ho jaata hai). Ask them for a room with heater…apart from this…wherever we went, we never had this problem..idhar majboori thi..but even that could not take away from the otherwise outstanding decor and facade of the motel itself. Food is great too. If you want, they can arrange a feast of local hunza cuisine for you (they will charge extra of course).
We got a room again with 1 extra mattress for Rs. 700/night.
Manager: Sher Ali
Ph: 05817-59049
NATCO Bus Service:
Skardu: Ph: 05831-50290/50289
Gilgit: Ph: 05811-50435/53381
^sir aap to sharminda kar rahe hain when your dates firm up and you know exactly the number of days you want to spend..i can perhaps help you chart an itinerary with cherry-picked destinations since i have the benefit of hindsight now :~) Mind you though…the best time to visit these places is July-August. Sept. bhi chal jata hai..is ke baad kaafi thand barh jati hai and raastay get clogged with snow and what not.
PS: A note…the heater that i am talking about at Rama is the water heater not the room heater.
They will even play cricket with you..this Sher Ali chap and other motel staff. it’s almost like a family gets all nostalgic
Arrey waah ..ustaad Khanzaada saaheb...aap tau aik dum say chaa gaye hau chanda...aik dum fit jhakkaas. Great photography too. I have the book, ' A Journey through Indus" which is considered the best book on Pakistan but trust me some of your pics beat it fair and square.
Oh, man why do people go to Paris and crap. This is the place to go.
Khano..i just glanced through your photos, and later I will view them again…. Man I could only but stare at some of the scenery. I think you use a pretty pricey camera to take such nice photos. You make it look nicer than it actually is. You Khan Artist.
