I don’t think that there is any sect that views him favourably.
However, an important point to bear in mind about Hajjaj is that many of the accounts of his cruelty and ill-doings were written during the Abbasid times, when writers could gain the favour of political rulers by writing histories that demeaned and belittled the Umayyads and their prominent generals. It is difficult to be certain of how much of what is written negatively about him is factual, and how much is exaggeration for political purposes.
