visudo does syntax check when you save the file. Its only used for sudoer file.

Laffy you logging in as root?

can you do cat or less on that file?

Now if you see fine constants, you can use"r" to replace one char. or press “R” to change multiple characters.

Also you can use press i to take vi/vim into insert/editing mode.

Try this on linux system

vimtutor(from commamd line)
