Cellphones - to be or not to be!!

I know a lot of you have cellphones, if you do, raise a hand and kindly consider the following:
Do you feel the need to have a cellphone with you all the time and feel absolutely lost without one? I know I definitely do, but how can we be like this when all previous generations did fine without having to carry phones around? Are we become slaves to technology and making human contact extremely impersonal?
I know a lot of really young kids also have cellphones and to me, this is just so wrong!

Well, I think cell phones have become a really important part of our society but it also has it's disadvantages like brain cancer and involved in a car wrack.
But then again it's really helpful most of the times. I suggest that we shouldn't overuse it and keep it to the limits.

Thank you, come again

cat-woman jee: its not wrong coz i have a cellphone myself and i think its pretty useful.
like once i missed my bus and i called my house no one was home then i called on everyone else's (my family members) cellphones and i was finally picked up.

or

when u go to grocery store and u forget what to buy.... u can always call and ta da ;)

SMILE YER ON CANDID CAMERA ;)

Its true that past generations didnt have cell phones, and did just well without them, but the same can be said about so many other things as well.
Necessity is the mother of invention.

So many new medical inventions are out there, without which, many people wouldnt survive for too long. These inventions werent there 20 or 30 yrs ago, but people did fine without them.....because lots of diseases were non-existent then.

Same goes for cell phones. 20 yrs ago, people had fewer responsibilities, and hence, didnt have to be at many places at the same time. But now, with people having too much burden on their shoulders, both personal and professional, they have the need to be at more than one place at the same time....and cell phones provide them with that opportunity.

However, thats not to say that this gadget isnt grossly misused. I mean, who wants to hear a cell phone buzzing in the middle of a movie in a theater....or who wants to see u sticking that gadget to ur ear talking to ur honey, while driving. These are things we can certainly do without. We should know where to draw the line.

For a lot of people, cell phones are very important. I didn't have a cell phone until few months ago, but I wasn't travelling as much back then either.

The other day I went to get a haircut and the attendent told me it'll be 1/2 hour before my turn. Usually I would just sit and wait but since I had a cell phone, I came out of the shop and called a friend and had a good chat. I thought that was great convenience. I didn't have to go through tedious wait for my turn.

However, I agree that talking on the cell phone while driving is definitely dangerous. I am not sure how much the brain cancer thing is true but at least in driving case, one must definitely be very careful...

That's exactly why I only call those friends while driving to whom I don't pay much attention anyway when they are talking :-D

Cell phone is the necessity. This makes the life easy and you are always in touch. Its good to go with the new technology.

Now its the time to have Free PC to PC phone. Download Free PC to Phone software from http://www.business-generator.com/internet2.htm

This site only can be viewed with internet explorer properly.

Get one for yourself and ask friends to have one too.

First time in my life I have a home phone now. I never had one at home, though I had a dual ISDN line for my computer connexions & I dont have it anymore. I always had two cell phones (one my own one companies) & still I have two. One from UK and one from holland, because people have to ring me from UK and it gives them option to ring me paying for a local call (specially my wife she is still in UK).

Advantages of phone: I am contactable where-ever I am in the world apart from USA & Canada at any time. When u dont want to give anyone ur home number (for any reason) mobile number is always is good option at that time.

Dis-advantages:
Very dangerous while u are driving and not good for health. Sometimes people ring me when I dont want them to ring me or cant talk to them (busy or some other reason). I got a phone call from my work regarding a serious problem when I was signing for my marrriage in the registry office, luckly phone was with my mate, etc. etc.

I dont think anyone who is in school or college needs a mobile phone. If one is living on campus in a university then ya mobile phone is a good option so that ur parents can contact you.

I definitely agree with what everyone said - Roman, Akif and Najim.
Cellphones are the second biggest cause of road accidents (after overspeeding).
They can be a huge nuisance as well, especially at university when they go off in almost every lecture. So, learn to switch off phones in the movies, lectures and the like!

I dont understand this whole issue with cellphones and danger. I feel that if you have a hands free cellphone it is no different than talking to a passenger in your car. the traffic idiots who claim that it diverts attention from driving should also go and ban car stereos and prohibit the passengers in the vehicle from conversing with the driver.

Traffic authorities need to stop yip-yaping about cell phone safety and concentrate on road safety. Make license exams tougher so idiots who insist on giving a left turn signal while merging right will not be able to drive. Similarly road signs, conditions, traffic management etc needs to be better.

I can not live without the cellphone, because the pace of life is such that you need to be connected and be able to reach people at any given time. I get work related as well as personal calls. Yeah it was not a necessity a few years back, but knowing that you have the conveneince far outstrips not having it. I mean people in some countries make do without phones at home.

I agree with the hands-free solution, but what about idiots who drive with one hand and phone in the other. Sometimes, they're so absorbed in conversation, their response is slow when the robot turns green...

Cellphones??? sorry I can't afford the service no matter how rich i get:D(I'm cheap)

You know most of me, but not all of me
Things that I have done are not suppose to be
I'm a sinner of my sins
A prisoner of my prisons
I love God, but I dont think God loves me
For that i want to know
If I die will you cry for me

I got a cell phone as a going away gift from my daddy when i left for univ last year..

My chem prof fell in love with me becuz my cell always went off during his lectures, once he stopped talking, walked up to where i was sitting, gave me the wickedest smile while i struggled to find my cell in my bag, and stood there until i turned it off, and then walked back up to his podium with a grin. aah :o i was soooo teased about it. it’s not funny.

i am giving it up though, realized it was more of a tracking device my parents needed on me, i am tired of it.

Hayaa...my sentiments exactly!!

That's the only reason my parents are letting me keep one, so they can call me 6 times in an hour whenever I'm out !

Hayaa

technology say na-balad insaan.
get one of those antenna replacements that flash when you are getting a call and keep the ringer turned off.

or you can join the boring people who get the generic battery that vibrates for silent alerts. except it makes the sound of a miniature semi trailer if you have it in a bag with tons of stuff or on a desk...which thus defeats the entire purpose.
