Casio EX-Z4U - Digital Camera

hmm well.. do let us know..

but then again movie recording may not be something you want.. depends.. I don't want it in my digicam.. it's there.. but i don't use it.

That is true. I have a camcorder (Mini DV) which records stills and I have a digicam (Olympus C700) which records movies. None of them does the 'other stuff' well. But then again, if Z4 only has audio recording capabilities, I must wonder what were they thinking... whats the use?

voice memos .. or notes while you take your snapshots.. it's probably more useful than low res short clips..

I think the Optio S4 has video recording..

Dang.. I’m so jealous now

I’ve got one model down from this one… the 3.2 megapixel version, with a slightly smaller (though still bigger than average) screen.

I love it to bits. The Best Shot feature is amazing, superceded only by the web pages the camera makes automatically.

After my old digital camera (the size of a brick), I barely even notice having the Casio in my pocket, and the picture quality is amazing too. I recently took a look at the photos I took in Rome with this baby and I’m awed by how good the quality is.

Word of advice, though, Faisal: Make sure you set the camera to the highest photo quality. The default (medium) quality sucks badly.

Taken with optical zoom (about 2x zoom), standing, no tripod.

Also, my camera as I mentioned is one model down. It records 30 seconds at a time of video with audio. I keep 2 videos I took with it on my website… the video quality isn’t anything to write home about though.

hmm so this image you posted was from medium quality then?? :halo:

I just bought this Mustek model DV3000, it does both still pics (3.1 mp), video (320 x 240), plus you can also use it as a webcam. And that one is also very tiny, a little bigger than a Z4. It also uses SD or MMC cards. The best part — I paid only $140.

No, this photo was originally high quality, then shrunk on my PC, and then reduced to low quality on my PC to fit into the darn GS size limit

The original is much much nicer, but you’ll have to take my word for it…

:hehe: i do Maddy.. i already took Faisals word on the movie mode and he’s AWOL since then..

only joshing with ya.. the image is nice.. shows some fringing at the edges and desperately needs adjustments in Photoshop.. otherwise it’s :k:

No, I am not AWOL. As I said yesterday, I remembered there was no movieprojector icon in the Z4 (it was in Z3). I checked last night. The camera has four modes (as opposed to three in the Z3). They are snapshot mode, Best Shot mode, then a microphone icon and then a music icon. I need to figure out what those two are, but its quite likely that they have replaced the movie mode by these two. I will try and post a full resolution pic tonight to check the quality of the cam.

hmm it appears the rumors were true..

well good to know.. (not exactly from your standpoint.. i.e. if you even care) but it's ascertained that the US version does not have movie mode.

A quick look at the manual will explain all.. awaiting the picture.. post a pre-processing crop from a full resolution image.

Well, to be honest, the movie mode is not on the top of my list of Needs/Wants. Size of the cam and quality of pics is definitely the things I was looking at. So can't say I am gonna change my mind if I find movie mode is missing.

The purchasing history of the cam is interesting. I had originally bought a Z3, which had a movie mode. Used it for 3-4 days, and then someone dropped it. It broke (well the lens was broken completely) rendering the cam useless :( So, I took it back to the store, and even though dropping and physically damaging the cam voids all warranties and return, I used my considerable persuasion skills and they agreed to return the broken one to Casio and get me a brand new one. Karna khuda ke ye hua ke Casio stopped selling Z3 at that exact time, since they were coming out with Z4. So, the store guys asked me if I will be willing to accept a Z4 instead, which is a 4 MP and the same price as Z3. I said "oh sure!". Hence I automatically (and perhaps incorrectly) assumed it will have all the features of Z3 with 1 MP more.

to me it appears you were lucky to get a replacement... even better, a model up..wasn't much choice for you to shop other brands..

Enjoy and post samples when you can.

Well, the shopping around was done before I bought the Z3. :)

Here you go

Faisal some of us are still on dialup .. :(

Yes, there are severe problems. I see purple fringing, blur and grain in both photos. Output quality doesnt get my approval.

As there are many threads regarding Digital Cameras, so I decided to post in the same thread…

Friends, I will be buying a “Digital Camera” soon. So, I thought why not to ask you guppies few questions…

Look, I am neither some professional snaps taker, nor I want to become…so, I want a digital camers with normal performances, nice look…etc…priced b/w 100 to 150 Dollars (if some one is telling me regarding camera which is of very good quality and a bit more pricy, please list it)

To be very frank, I don`t know much about Digital cameras, apart from this that they take snaps, which you can save in your computer. And, the snaps are of better quality than those taken from normal cameras.

I also heared that they can be used as “web cams” ?

Plus, what are the other advantages and disadvantages of Digital camers, if some one can explain, along with some names of models, which comes in my range, it would be appretiated.

Waiting for you guppies nice replies…

what iso is the pic 1 shot at? looks too grainy for a daytime shot even for iso 400. its also quite blurry. the bottom right corner shows some heavy blurring.

pic 2 has a lot of barrel distortion, esp if you look at the window frame on the left side, more twds the top. left bottom corner shows some funky green chromatic abberation. bottom right corner is blurry once again.

this is just another instance of an avg 4MP cam being worse than a decent 2MP cam. MPs dont matter too much; without good optics, ur cam can only be so good.
