salaam,

most of the things that you have said i agree with it totally!!!!

we muslim have to think and re-evaluate our behavior and customs and things that we take for granted in the light of the true spirit of Islam (of course the QURAN)!!

forget what america is or does, or what the west in general does!!
the west is not our reference point the QURAN is!!

so, if somebody says that we muslims of today are not right, that does not mean that that person is supporting the west!!!

the muslim world of today is in a mess for the last 700-800 years!! the decline in the muslim world is not of the last decade or century, this decline has been going on much longer!!

first of all every one call it the MUSLIM UMMAH
but in fact it is divided into so many sects, groups and GOD knows what!!

the mean reason that the west and especially america can attack anyone she desires is, because there is no UNITY among the muslims!!!

the muslims of today are in a humiliating position all over the world!!
the muslims today only go throught the prescribed motions and DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE MESSAGE AND THE SPIRIT!!

simple example, the whole (so-called) Ummah can not start Ramadan on the same day (and the EId).
In the eyes of GOD and the Prophet (saw) what is more important: the unity of the ummah(so every muslim starting fast on the same day all over the world) OR when exactly the first light ray of the moon is visible!!!
we muslims can not even decide on one day for one of the most important days in the year!!

can not all (muslim) countries sit down and decide upon one day!! (looking at the state of the muslim world apparently not)!! and this is a rather simple problem!!

in the heat of the moment i forgot your original post!!
the mean point is that al kinds of pir, fakir, imams do (blasphemous) things under the heading of sharia law!!

this maulvi in the article of july 5 is just a fanatic figure, who just wanted to ventilate his anger, may-be due to his own domestic problems!! (may-be he had a quarrel with his wife about too much mirjin in the salan).

but seriously,
this maulvi is at the same time accusor, the judge and the executor, what kind of islamic law is this!!!!

It's interesting that every Muslim says there is not unity among the Muslims but don't answer the question just ask it.
Why do Pakistanis not celebrate the same day as Bengalis.
I don't say the Muslims are right but i do ask to look at the root of the problem. The fact is that we are not ruled by Islam and with a corrupt society brings corrupt people.

I think this ayat is very relevant. When you are being told that something is Islam then the people follow it. Under Zia at the time people thought it was Islamic because he put Islamic programmes on the TV. If i was to ask the normal Pakistani what the first rule of the Islamic economic system was how many would know.
We are brought up that Islam is just namaaz and politics is something that is separate when infact when the prophet implemented Islam it was run politically. Islam and politics go hand in hand cos you can't implement Islam without a system.
Before the prophet implemented Islam only 120 people came to Islam in 10 years. When Islam was implemented 20 million came to Islam over the following 10.
The effect of a society bulit upon Islam is what will make people Islamic. The people want to be Islamic but follow what they are told with Qardawi saying Riba is halal, Musharraf taking Ayats about Jihad out of the education system, scholars saying Jihad is struggle with oneself etc.
We have rulers and scholars who mislead the people who in nature don't want to do wrong but sincerely think they are right.
If the correct system was implemented onto them you would see them follow Islam properly as there would be no-one to mislead them.
